Not to make any rash judgements

OK so I've seen them "only" 10 times and apparently aren't as jaded as you. But at the risk of outing myself as a total loser jobwise, I make a whopping $9 an hour, and between the ticket, hotel, and bus fare (yes I said bus, 200 miles each way), I'll be spending about $400 on this trip. And never even thought about missing it because there may never be another one. Which was my first thought when the tour was announced, "this might be it... I have to get there".

If the resale prices are stunning you, see what's left at face through ticketmaster. If it's just that you're being elitist about what seats you'll accept, you should have been online when the tickets went onsale instead of moaning now.

As for newer material, I guess we have opposite perspective. I LOVE it that :rush: didn't become just a nostalgia band and kept playing new material every time out. I will say that 9 songs from 1 album, even a great one IMHO like CA, is a bit overboard.

Which would indicate that this is the tour you MUST see. No new album=fewer songs from CA=more room for old tunes. And since they played 4 from PoW each night you likely will have less from that to deal with too. If they play 5 from CA and 2 from PoW, that's 6 more slots open this tour for other albums. Think about it.

Your willingness to spend your hard earned cash is a testament to your loyalty as a fan. My take on ticket prices-

I am lucky to have seen Rush many times and am gladly forking over decent cash to see them twice on this tour. Happy to do it. I still have the right to say it's extremely expensive, and the cost on this tour has skyrocketed. Hopefully that will equate to an enthusiastic crowd compared to the fans openly snoozing last tour. After subdivisions, it seemed most of the crowd did not recognize a single tune til the end of set 2.

These 70s tunes are in no way "nostalgia tunes." They are groundbreaking, pioneering, seminal, influential hard rock prog tunes.

To play 5 from CA and 2 from PoW in R41 would demonstrate the band is in some sort of denial. Haven't we just had two CA tours in a row (2 feature tunes on TM) and a mini PoW tour? For Rush to play arena shows would be impossible now had it not been for the albums leading up to and including Moving Pictures. Had their career hypothetically started with Signals, they would not be drawing arena sized crowds nor ultra premium ticket prices in 2015.

Already have tickets for one and that may go up to three if I like the set. (If it's an R30 type set one show will be enough for me)

I figure this is the last time I'll ever have to deal with Ticketbastard again. Everyone else I'd want to see live flys under the Tcketbastard radar and prices are much more reasonable.

Without fail, I always find a way to complain about the setlist when I go see my favorite bands. But then I try to remember that my own negativity or unrealistic expectations are typically the problem, and not the setlist. I prefer FBN through Signals, but I don't want to go see a band that plays for me. I prefer to see a band that plays for itself, and does it so well that it deserves to be paid and appreciated for it. I hated the overabundance of keyboard material in the CA set. But that's because I've only seen Rush twice, and I therefore have other dream setlist priorities. But the keyboard material is what Rush wanted to play. Gotta go with what you're excited about when making a setlist--keep things fresh, fun, and challenging. This is true for all creative endeavors: painting, writing, acting, performing music.

As for ticket prices, Rush didn't set the market, even though they may have at times been complicit in contributing to it. Rush must set their ticket prices lower than The Rolling Stones, The Who, Paul McCartney, U2, et al., but higher than, say, Soundgarden. Because Rush alone didn't create the system, I cannot resent the band. But perhaps I'm a hypocrite on this, because I do think that powerful bands (any of the above) should be doing more to fight the Stubhub/ticket broker epidemic.

Finally, I try to remember that high ticket prices are partly encouraged by the fact that a substantial number of people no longer pay a dime for the music that enriches their lives on a daily basis. But I guess it is unfortunate that artists in turn take it out on the diehard fans who actually go to concerts and purchase merchandise.

Alas, most of my frustration stems less from the artists and more from the ticket business monopolies and free/virtually free music sites.

I think it's nuts to skip this tour! Go and be grateful that you can. I have a serious autoimmune problem that is in remission at times and at other times gives me hell. Guess what is happening this spring? I bought two tickets to go to the Philly show and my husband and I were so excited, now it looks like that is not going to happen, sigh. :banghead: It could be worse, I'll end up buying the DVD, but if you can go you should :)

Why would anybody skip a chance to see Rush live? These guys are amazing musicians. Well worth the price.

Exactly my thoughts. If you can afford it...then why would you skip the possible last tour, or any tour?

If the OP can't afford to see Rush...then I understand...I am truly sorry...story over.

But to skip this tour based on the setlist or the ticket price is ridiculous, in my opinion.

If you're a Rush Fan, then I'm sure you'll end up liking the majority of the 20+ songs they'll play. And if you can afford it, then there's no sense complaining about the price.

This 'skipping this tour' thread, sounds like a mental self-preservation rationalization to me.

'If I can't go , I don't want or need to go'.

I guess I can understand that, to a degree. I have used that technique in other life choices.

I hope that if you are able to go see a show...

...that you will want to go see a show.

I can only speak for NYC, prime Rush tix are TRIPLE the price of Who tix, and DOUBLE the price of U2 (U2 for lower bowl, Who for first 20 rows, since all shows are sell outs, prices are manipulated resale market). Our cost component is in a completely different universe than how many on this thread are discussing. I am a fan, and will gladly pay, but let's all Please be fair to the realities of the market here. Rush fans are paying a huge price for loyalty.

And they are willing to pay after watching the band ignore their 70s material for three hours last tour, then played a couple 70s tunes that were repeats from the prior tours. It's a testament to how patient Rush fans are, as other bands of that era would clearly not get away with ignoring their most influential material. Rush would not be such an expensive arena band without their pre Signals material.

I skipped the last tour and will likely skip this one. Too expensive, and I've seen plenty of shows to last a lifetime.

If you'd stop that cigar habit, you'd have money for tickets ... LOL.

It's not the cigars...it's using Benjamins to fire them up that's so expensive!

(Btw...there's no rationalization going on here. I have the money that they want for the RUSH tix. But I would rather spend it elsewhere...or simply save it.)

If you're not gonna enjoy it don't go. It's your choice, not an obligation. Someone who will enjoy the show will purchase your seat.

It's not like the guys aren't gonna get paid if you don't show up.

They'll get paid, for sure...and I really think it will be a great show.

:goodone: Yes, exactly. I do love the 70s and early 80s stuff, but there's also a lot of fairly recent stuff I love. Clockwork Angels was a phenomenal album, and I'm so glad they played most of it! I could use more Vapor Trails, however (says the Vapor Trails ambassador).

Ugh no! I'd like more Vapor Trails Remix played live but not more Vapor Trails.

I agree to the extent CA is a very good album, albeit there is no way to regain youthful singing nor youthful guitar solos. That's life. But to refer to Rush's 1970s material as Oldies/ nostalgia act on this thread is unfair to Rush. These are influential hard rock prog tunes that influenced a generation of rock musicians.

Other less influential acts from the 70s would not get away with ignoring their formative material for three hours ala Rush on CA tour.

Respectfully,

Applicant, Defender of 70s Rush

Applicant, Petitioner for fair representation of all Rush material live
