Dread Pirate Robert
Well, King Ecbert turns out to be conniving scheming backstabbing scum.
J2112YYZ
After a few strange episodes, they got back to what makes them good in last weeks episode. I never thought much of Ecbert before this season but he's become a very good character. Burning down the Viking settlement and killing everyone is revenge for Lagertha turning him down. I don't know what else Ecbert had to do to win Lagertha over but he did everything he could and she still turned him down. Once Ragnar finds out what happened, shit will be on. Dread Pirate Robert
Surprised at Athelstan being killed off. I had assumed he was going to be around in the series for a lot longer . . . Oh, and, glad I am not a woman guilty of adultery in Saxon England . . . Ouch. Edited March 27, 2015 by Closer to the Heart
Aikenrooster
Surprised at Athelstan being killed off. I had assumed he was going to be around in the series for a lot longer . . . Oh, and, glad I am not a woman guilty of adultery in Saxon England . . . Ouch. After she saved her life by naming Athelstan as the father of the bastard baby, I thought Athelstan was going to be central in the plot of the remainder of the season, since Ecbert was so convinced that he could (literally) talk to God. But, as soon as he got knocked back with the light, and Floki (a.k.a. "the man") saw blood running from that idol, I knew he was going to be a martyr. Riddle me this: since Ragnar killed the messenger, who brought news of the settlement raze, and Athelstan being martyred, do you think Ragnar even gives a shit about England anymore? I mean, he has been so focused on going to Paris, right?
Aikenrooster
Anyway, Siggy is dead (not that was a source of big disappointment, because it wasn't). She went out a heroine, saving two of Ragnar's young sons. I suppose we are meant to be left wondering whether the Wanderer really was just a mortal or something more than that . . .That chick was hot; pure Canadian beauty. Sort of like Linda Hamilton, RIP. But, yeah, we would be psycho too, if we had been abused in that manner since childhood.

Aikenrooster
The last episode of Vikings was pretty intense, as Ecbert kissed his daughter in law, after he sent his son away to deal with Kwinfrith, and King Ragnar and the bunch prepare to invade Paris. Floki has been put in charge of leading this charge and built a very complex network of floating ladders, presumably to breech the high walls of gay Paris. Ragnar keeps giving him the evil eye, like he knows he killed Athelstan. Floki made the mistake of telling his wife that he killed Athelstan, so I hope that doesn't bite him in the backside. If they kill off Floki, I will never watch again.

If they kill off Floki, I will never watch again. I "liked" your post, though I do not agree about the never watching again if Floki dies part. That episode was very good, and reminded me of why I liked the series in the first place. Ecbert is already planning to marry Judith and raise Alfred as his son, sending Ethelwolf off to be killed by Cwenfrith, or however the f**k you spell her name, apparently. You get the historical reference to Alfred? Though the historical parentages as depicted in this Series is, um, questionable, clearly that is Alfred the Great, the one and only king or queen of England to ever be bestowed the title of "the Great" after his name. Dread Pirate Robert
Ragnar keeps giving him the evil eye, like he knows he killed Athelstan. Of course Ragnar knows that. He knows that, if Floki did not personally do the deed, that it was Floki's anti-Athelstan preaching that was responsible for it. Either way, he holds Floki responsible for Athelstan's death. RUSHHEAD666
So many metalheads here, and not a word on the brilliant VIKINGS shows (on History)? You don't deserve your Bathory discography! :P :PI'm really hooked and so sad that the 1st season is already over. One of the things I really appreciate is that all the actors speak so clearly. I get every word! The wife's hooked too, but I suspect for all the wrong reasons. What could she possibly see in all those hot, tall, blonde guys? Beats me!The guy who plays Floki, the boats builder, is totally black metal!! Anyone? You are breaking my heart HPL. I married the daughter of a Viking. He has 50% Finnish blood. Her mom has 50% Finnish blood. Whatever man, now my Viking hot wife is over me after 18 years of marriage. My heart is sad but I am getting stronger. Life goes on. Wife goes on. Cliche but true. If I ever want to listen to some Viking music I will play the first TNT album with TEKRO on guitar. Harnell on vocals baby.TNT FUKKING RULES! "KNIGHTS OF THE NEW THUNDER!" "SEVEN SEAS!!" So I must also say that yes, my father in law is still in Minnesota where my wife was born. He is a huge VIKING fan too. Oh the irony. Shoot me now. J2112YYZ
That was a hell of an episode last night. While the vikings were great at battle, this episode showed that they are not always the smartest when it comes to knowing when to stop the fight. They got their assess kicked and Ragnar definitely set Floki up to fail. There was no way Ragar could have thought they were gonna win this battle and somehow storm the walls of Paris and raid it after he saw what was happening, right? They lost too many men, there is no way they can take Paris now. I was glad to see that Ironside didn't die. When Ragnar first found him, it looked like he was gone. But they would have rewrote viking legend if he died since according to the stories he takes over as king one day. Lagertha was her usual badass, sexy self leading the ground attack. I'm glad she was able to avoid getting one of those spears launched through her, even if it wasn't her choice to leave.

Dread Pirate Robert
They lost too many men, there is no way they can take Paris now. I wouldn't rule that out just yet. Ragnar may come up with some creative scheme to pull it off.

Dread Pirate Robert
Question: why do so many fans of the series seem to like Floki as their favorite character? There are many characters in the series I like better than Floki. Hell, I even grew to like Athelstan more than I like Floki. A guess: He's a nutjob and people like nutjobs. :D Athelstan was probably my #2 favorite behind Ragnar himself. I too thought Bjorn was dead for sure after they showed the 2 arrows stuck in him. Then Ragnar falls, then Floki's surrounded by fire.. Damn I thought they were going to kill off everybody in this episode for awhile there!
