no one's saying that rush have ska-punk-fusion (talk out of ass much?) songs. but it's obvious to anyone with ears that the police influence is there, from 1980 to the mid 80s.

I'll play your game. led zeppelin clearly didn't influence rush because, well, according to van squalen the only groups influenced by other groups are f***ing cover bands. because if you're not covering the f***ing song outright, squalen's dumb ears just can't hear the influence there because you're being too subtle.

Oh, I see, so now there's qualifiers regarding Rush and the Police. The same kind of stuff I've been saying, just the other side of it. Understood., LOL.

Are you arguing against a voice in your head?

I still want to know how he determined there was no bigger Police fan in the world than himself. Maybe the voice in his head told him that.

I still want to know why the biggest poster on this board is skipping the last Rush tour. :)

She's never had the money/opportunity so she's never seen them live. Are you a big man, now?

And yet she's been offered the opportunity a number of times, gratis. You're getting huffy, are ya? The poster in question has slagged me ad nauseum a number of times for lesser reasons. STFU already.

I'm going to say one thing now, I don't know what you are trying to accomplish by saying someone isn't a fan of Rush by not going to a concert, and what is even worse is that you are making fun of a Rush fan because they can't go to a concert. I don't know what you were thinking to think what you said in anyway is ok. Because what you said was not ok at all. I really hope you fix the way you talk to people, just rude.

van squalen has another magical power in addition to his power to not hear what's clearly in a song - he can snap his fingers and get concert tickets and travel fees covered for free, instantly!!

Good one. I hope that didn't take you too long to type up. :)

It usually doesn't. Bathory is better at this than you.

You need to explain that last bit. I stress the word "need."

And yet so few of you listen to the Police. :)

Shimmery strummed chords, oh, okay then. :)

So you don't hear shimmery strummed chords in The Police music? If not, then there's no point in trying to explain further.

Indeed there isn't. There is no negligible Police nuances in Rush's music. Nobody has successfully emulated the Police, they're one of a kind and smart outfits don't even try.

The closest Rush ever got to actual reggae fusion was Working Man live on the last two tours.

I'm not so sure about that. The Police were certainly not original by any stretch of the imagination. I'll just echo what has been said before. If you can't hear the obvious influence in their music when many other people can, then you just need to just let it go. Just because you can't hear it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Sounds like you're one against many in your opinion.

A half dozen rush nerds in this forum hardly constitutes many, in the great big wide world. And your opinion, or echo, that the Police weren't originals by ANY stretch, simply proves my point. Tell you what. At either of the Rush gigs in SoCal, I'll happily ask a dozen random Rush nerds if they think the Police and Rush are artists of the same caliber, and if even one of them says yes, I'll buy you an official Rush can koozie. :)

The biggest poster on this board? I don't think so. And, even if I was, what business is it of yours why I am not going to see Rush?

If it makes you feel better, you can step on me and preen yourself for being a bigger and better Rush fan than me.

Oh, I would never say that. You're clearly a rush fan. :)

That doesn't mean that the Police and Rush are in the same genre.

No one has claimed that, yet you insist on trolling with this.

Some people just like to run subjects into the ground like someone who keeps putting their hand in the fire over and over again. They know they're wrong, but they refused to back down and admit defeat.

I have no appreciation for The Police, I have always thought Sting unlike The Stig is over rated.

The Stig is awesome. Bummer about Jeremy Clarkson too.

LOL, Rush nerds.

You guys would have a rough time on the mass hard rock boards. :)

Cygnus, you were right. All they needed was the history buzzword and they bit. I owe you ten bucks. Fair and square. A bet's a bet. I honestly didn't think they'd feed as much.

Always thought there was a link between New World Man and Every Breath You Take.

That's interesting...I was about to say I don't hear that at all, but during the verse, the tempos are fairly close to each other.
