Test For Echo 11 votes? That's too bad. Vapor Trails is worse.

Agreed... :)

I only voted Test For Echo because I voted Vapor Trails in the preceding 'Least Glorious' poll...and because x1yyz has since given such an impassioned and heartfelt counterpoint in that album's defense...

I've never heard anything on the radio from Roll the Bones...mainly because what would be required for that to be so, is listening to the radio. And that is something I haven't done since...well, before 1991, honestly. Not commercial radio, anyway.

I bought Roll the Bones when it was released because it's a Rush album. (Shocking, I know).

Well, in my defense I was 13 at the time the album came out, so listening to the local rock radio station at that age is what helped peak my interest in Rush and other bands. Today I may listen to a few minutes of radio while i'm in the car but back then when I had no job or money, radio was my main way of hearing music. Those three main singles off RTB were played a shit ton. My area has always been a big Rush town, so they those songs may have gotten even more play here than everywhere else.

Oh, no need to come to your own defense- I was not trying to talk down to anyone, or put myself on a pedestal, nothing like that. I'm just doing my part to refute the generalization that Roll the Bones sold well either because of radio airplay, or because of a best-of package, or anything else. I just bought it because it was Rush, and it was new.

(And you're not that much younger than I, anyway- I was only 18 in 1991).

In fairness I was tuned out to just about everything (exception car radio) after my daughter was born in 87' and then my son in 90' but i have no recollection of hearing any RTB music on the radio then or since. Maybe I just wasn't paying close enough attention. I do remember however hearing stuff from HYF on the radio a few years previous (Time Stand Still of course and maybe Force Ten).... :codger: Edited by Narpsberg

But certainly something changed as RTB sold more than the previous albums, and was the first album to sell more than the previous one since Moving Pictures. In my area, the singles were on all the time. Classic radio in my area has about 8-12 Rush songs that they will frequently play, and Dreamline is still one of them. Nothing else after Subdivisions is ever played.

My classic rock station plays all the usual 74-81 + Subdivisions stuff, only rarities (by their standards) being The Trees, and Overture/Temples. They played Far Cry quite a bit when Snakes came out. But my active rock radio station still plays the shit out of Headlong Flight in heavy rotation, and occasionally plays Stick It Out and Dreamline. One time they played Test For Echo.

Okay. I certainly won't refute any of that.

I like Roll the Bones. It's not among their best works, on the whole. But it has some great moments.

I've never heard anything from RTB on the radio, in fact the most recent rush tune I hear played fairly regularly is big money, a synth tune. but anyway, like the other 10 or 20 times I've had this discussion with led, I wasn't being 100% serious and I wasn't really "debating" here. I like to give led a hard time because he goes into lawyer mode about it, but I can't take on all of you at once

Dreamline was always on the FM stations in NYC. RTB is the last Rush album I knew before I took my hiatus. I was 37 in '91.

Another album I don't understand that intense dislike for.

I think some of that is due to the thin production. But I think some people are still pissed about the title track having rap in it. Even after all these years.

I think by that time a lot of Rush fans also liked the idea of being a large cult band and didn't like the pop/casual attention that RTB got from the success of the album. In a similar way, dead-heads were pissed at the casuals brought in from In The Dark and despise that album. It had a huge radio hit and sold as many copies as any of their classics (only 2 albums match it in sales).

That's not a classic rock station, is it? I've heard some synth tunes on Sirius, but never the radio.

kz 106, chattanooga's classic rock station. they play subdivisions and big money. I've also heard another synth tune on the radio in DC, can't remember what it was. at the time I wasn't really a huge rush fan yet.

on sirius, I've heard everything from nobody's hero to f***ing territories.

Of course I meant other than Subdivisions. I'm really surprised by The Big Money...it is a sound that is so dated, and usually classic rock stations avoid such songs unless they were monster hits.

this station plays a ton of dated shit...endless bon jovi, they even play warrant. 5 or 6 songs off of hysteria (I can handle the high n dry and pyromania stuff when it comes on). an obscene amount of john mellencamp too. when big money comes on, I'm happy.

I do agree that it's dated as hell and a weird weird choice. they play it more than they play overture/temples!

They don't touch Bon Jovi or Warrant back at home but they play the crap out of the title track on Hysteria. Other than that they don't play much Lep apart from Pyromania. Even High N' Dry is omitted.
