Who am I?

I don't get it. The Weapon is a much better song than Digital Man. Why do so many people like Digital Man? I mean, it's ok, but it's no The Weapon. I'm listeing to it right now, and all I can think about is how much better The Weapon is. Digital MAn is a good song, but it sucks compared to The Weapon.

Why even start that up in a thread that he hadn't even posted in (at the time you posted this)? If there's a member on the board that annoys you, why bait him into doing it MORE? I don't get that. There's enough drama here without having to go fishing for it. And remember, I've called out Zumbi for his posting style on a few occasions myself, so it's not like I'm in the habit of defending him.

And as we see, his actual post that came later was nothing like this.

I was just mocking the Jacob's Ladder thread shenanigans. At least I didn't start a thread for The Weapon...

;)

Those shenanigans ended a week ago. I just looked. Why resurrect it a week later and disrupt a different thread?

Equally fun to play on the drums!

Several of Rush's reggae-influenced songs are very fun in the rhythm section. :)

You are the second one I think on this thread to mention the reggae influence. I don't hear it at all. Whenever I hear that synth-sounding guitar, I think Flock of Seagulls. Or The Police. Should I run and hide?

The rhythm is allllllll reggae.

I don't hear it.

Some of that has to do with the snare hits being on beats two and four.

Yes, and the kick drum on the three, during the verse.

Lorraine, it goes back and forth- a rock beat during the passage that ends "constant change is here to stay", reggae right after in the refrain "He'd love to spend the night in Zion"...your favorite part art at 3:26 is reggae, and changes to rock at 4:10.

Neil talks of being very influenced by Stewart Copeland. We hear reggae on a number of bits, SoR, but definitely here as you say. Awesome stuff IMO. And a time when we had some SPACE in the music, not too many layers and a wall of sound. F-cking brilliant if you ask me.

Good thing I can laugh at myself.

Thank you for explaining it to me.

What defines the change from reggae to rock at 4:10?

Considerably worse than any song they recorded from 1977-1981 and one of two skips on Signals.

whats the other one, losing it or countdown?

Chemistry, though Countdown has aged poorly and I skip that a lot.

I love Losing It and never skip it.

Never mind this. Why weren't you there defending your album when Geddy had the audacity to rank it so low?

Geddy posts here?

Who knew we'd still be fans and they'd still be touring when the Space Shuttle program was totally over. Holy f-cking sh-t. The Virtuality of the 80s!

Geddy ranked the first nine Rush albums on a radio show Saturday night. Fly By Night did quite poorly. :boo hiss:

Aren't you the Fly By Night Ambassador? ;)

No worries- if you aren't a musician, it's difficult to hear and figure it out.

If you can count 1-2-3-4 in a repeating pattern during the reggae beat at 3:26, you hear the bass (or kick) drum on 1, and the snare on both 3 and 4. But then he does that fill from 4:07 to 4:10, and starting at 4:10 during the guitar solo, the bass drum is heard on 1 and 3, and the snare on 2 and 4, which is a standard rock rhythm in the 4/4 time signature.

I'm going to do that. Thank you. I have cut and pasted your post to a Notepad so I don't forget it and can easily refer to it in the future instead of having to search here with dial up which could take forever.

It's one of the few Rush songs that I think all three of them are great on. I don't know how to explain what I mean by that.

I get what you mean. All three of them shine equally on the song. Geddy's bass is the highlight of the song but Alex gets his time to show off during the chorus and solo and Neil is just grooving on the drums the whole time. It sounds to me like all three of them are having fun playing it.

I used to think it was only a OK song. But now I am starting to love it more and more after I have heard it on so many live albums (official ones and bootlegs).

Zumbi, what are the names of some S&A Tour bootlegs? Maybe I have one of those and I can watch it.

You mean video bootlegs?

Yes. I don't have any audio bootlegs from that tour. But I do have many dvds that are labeled "Mountain View" and stuff like that with no date. I wanted to see if I had any bootleg videos from that tour if you would give me the names of some of them instead of me having to put each dvd into the player to see what tour it's from.

Why don´t you just watch the official one?
