It has my vote for the worst ever Rush song: Spit It Out.

Otherwise it is full of good to phenomenal tracks.

Perfect 10

So...what makes Counterparts this special buddy? Always nice to know!

(For my money the best is saved for last: Cold Fire and Everyday Glory boh in my top 20 Rush songs).

Stick It Out

Cut To The Chase

Nobody's Hero

Between Sun And Moon (live Rio)

Leave That Thing Alone

Cold Fire

Everyday Glory

All wonderful songs that I consider among their finest work. Animate is also a great song but I've burned out on that one a bit. Double Agent gets a lot of hate because it's so weird, but despite not really being a song is fun little jam and I love it for what it is. Alien Shore is a solid track that I enjoy whenever it comes up in the rotation.

The Speed Of Love, yes, is the worst track on the album. I enjoy it nonetheless for Alex's guitar work. I find it very melodic.

I personally think that The Speed of Love is the second best song on the whole album after CTTC

Wow. You must really hate CP...and good lyrics.

I give it a seven . . . point five. The music's good and quite well produced, but a very average amount of it (the music) sticks out to me, the crazy riffage of Double Agent being the main highlight of the album IMO. Meanwhile Neil's lyrics seem to keep seriously returning to subject matters which remain still a bit too mature/taboo or controversial to this 16 year old boy, making it probably my least favorite album lyrically. I do like the album, it being Rush playing hard rocking music, however it is currently my second least favorite Rush studio album after another listen through a few days ago. One thing that really kills it for me besides some of the lyrics is Animate. I've never understood the mass appeal for this song, and I don't believe it makes a good opener at all. It's just a basic, slow paced, hard rock track that runs on a bit long. But perhaps the context I've come to know this album in isn't as kind to it as the context many others have dicscovered it in. Anyways:

The good/great:

Double Agent

Stick It Out

Cut To The Chase

Cold Fire

Nobody's Hero

The meh/average:

Animate

The Speed Of Love

Between Sun and Moon

Everyday Glory

Alien Shore (dig the bass work here though)

The bad/undesireable:

A good portion of the lyrics

Elevator music:

Leave That Thong Alone

(I might get a lot of hate for that last bit)

The lyrics are a major stumbling block for m. The music is pretty good but there is still a sense of treading water for me. It isn't until the next album that I think they put the music together in a more coherent way, even thought the lyrics aren't anything special on that one either. Still it's such a major step up from RTB, if that albums is about a 3 then CP has to be about a 6.

Solid album (7), but I enjoyed it much more back in the 90's. The "singles" (Stick it out, Nobody's Hero) are fairly average/obnoxious.

I love CTTC, BTS&M, and Animate.

Double Agent, Alien Shore and Cold Fire are fine.

Leave that speed of love alone.. stinks.

It's still my favorite Rush album since the mid 80s. Love the stripped down arrangements, playing, and perfect production. Crystal clear and with punch. I can see where people who obsess about lyrics would be irritated by Neil trying to get in touch with his feminine side, but I listen more for the music and Counterparts featured some of their best jams in a long time.
