I hate jeans shopping

I hate jeans. They're overpriced for the thinness of the material and you'll freeze in really cold weather.

You are right, you freeze in them in the cold weather.

Jeans used to cost $5 and fit like a charm. Then, the seventies came, and that was that. Goodbye cheap jeans forever. Now you pay over fifty dollars to wear jeans that are frayed and have holes in them.

Anyone remember Sears Toughskins jeans, popular in the 70's? One of my 5th grade classmates used to rip the little leather tags off of the backs; he had a small collection going!

That's why thermals are a must! :D

Precisely! (Yes, we do occasionally have weather here that calls for the donning of thermals). Yet another reason I don't want skinny jeans - aside from the fact that I'm too short and legs are too muscled for them, it's impossible to put thermals on underneath!

I need to go buy about 10 pair because it's my experience that when I find something I really like - it gets discontinued or changed.

Oh, thank you! I thought it was just me. It never fails. Each and every time I find something I like, that's the end of it. My whole life I've come in on the tail end of everything.

I don't wear thermals. I rely on my natural toughness to get me through the cold. :madra:

So adapt and buy a bigger size for the cold conditions.

Let's see how tough you are in the middle of the upcoming Minnesota winter. ;)

For us Seattleites, the trick can be how to find something that will keep you dry in the winter. It rains a lot (especially right now - WTF?!) and cold and rain does not go well. The only good thing about being soaked to the bone is stripping everything off and stepping into an absolutely piping hot shower.

So, I need to find me some kind of sexy snowpants to wear I think.

Hmm, never considered that "sexy" could successfully modify "snow pants". Don't most of them make the wearer look like the Michelin Man?

My big thing in winter is waterproof, warm, comfy shoes for hiking with the doggies. Those are an LL Bean specialty.

OMG. I found some.

Target. Seriously. Straight leg, mid/low waist. There's some substance to the denim and they are so soft.

Color me very happy. I need to go buy about 10 pair because it's my experience that when I find something I really like - it gets discontinued or changed.

Cool, though I fear that this will be a case where the major flaw won't become evident until after you've forked over money for a crate of the things.

Let's hope we won't have to move this discussion to the "What pissed you off today?" thread.

You know, for the cost I'm OK if they don't last forever. A couple of years should be sufficient. Hell, the last two pair of Levis I had frayed out badly at the hemline and the knees after about a year and those damn things were around $70/pair. I'm not particularly hard on jeans, either.

I know - Target - but I do have several pairs of their shorts, some of which are in fact denim. One pair is still holding up quite well (though very very faded of course) after SIX YEARS. I used to buy a lot of workout gear at Target as well - their shorts were like $8/pair, which to me is perfect for something you're just going to sweat in. They had their own line before signing some deal with Champion; now of course there's nothing for $8, plus I am not the biggest fan of Champion.

The only Target-branded items I have found that truly are poor quality (in terms of longevity) is in lingerie.

Yeah, actually, everything I've ever bought at Target has held up surprisingly well. And as you indicate, the price is usually right.

I buy the boys their clothes from Target. They have surprisingly durable pants and jeans for kids. Durable and soft, which can be a difficult thing to find. Old Navy is another place I get the kids clothes from.
