I've never listened to any of those 4 bands. Budgie is a lot like Rush in my opinion.

Yes Rush first period and Geddy's vocals

I like Tiles a lot. With Terry Brown producing, Hugh Syme doing artwork, and Lifeson contributing some guitar, they certainly seem to be trying to milk that Rush connection.

Really? Cool maybe I'll check these guys out!

And the other three too for that matter since I've never heard of any of these bands lol

Also: as far as I'm concerned, people talking about obscure bands on here is always welcome because I've discovered some pretty cool bands by people in this forum!

Grossly under-rated trio.. Singer/ bass player with a big nose and glasses that encompass his whole face squeeling out weird as hell lyrics like a raped goat.. Ya I'd say they're like Rush lol

WHY IS THERE NO ZEBRA ON THIS LIST?!!!?!? BLASTPHEMY!!!

Another obscure band, sound like AOR Hard Rock, the singer as some similarity with the young Geddy. This song has something with more progressive structures.

Always been Queensryche IMO. Queensryche even employed some of the same producers and engineers as Rush in the mid 80's early 90's and even did the concept album thing with Operation Mindcrime. Plus, Scott Rockenfield's style of drumming is the most like Pearts IMO.

Three piece band, Bassist (Felix Hahnemann) plays both bass guitar and keyboards, Randy Jackson sounds like Geddy Lee. They're EXTREMELY similar to Rush and they're amazing.

They deserve to be on that list.

Out-Rushing Rush....

Listening to this good song, make me think how cool it would be to see Geddy play the organ...

I'm sure he could, but by the time he started playing keyboards, the organ was kind of outdated as a rock instrument. Uriah Heap, Boston, Kansas, Yes...a bunch of bands made it sound awfully cool at one time, though.

i honestly never understood the dream theater/Rush comparison.

I just don't hear it.

Triumph

Yes this band has been compared to Rush many times. A power trio with progressive rock influence in their hard-rock heavy metal style. The critics towards them like Rush has not always been good for this band. And now they are in the Candian Hall of Fame

Rik is a talented guitarist. His voice is a gift from God. Amazing pipes

He is amazing. Triumph's set up is like Rush but not their music. I don't think, anyway.

They were a lot cheesier than Rush. Emmet is really the only virtuoso of the three. They were always goofy to me. It seems like Emmet is forcing himself to play in that hard rockin style .. It's wierd... He should have been strictly a jazz fusion or classical guitarist. He's got great chops.

I agree that Emmet is a great guitar player and that he is head and shoulders above the other two guys in Triumph, but I never thought it seemed like he was forcing anything. Fight the Good Fight flows about as naturally as any song I've ever heard and so does Lay It on the Line.

I typically don't like bands that supposedly are Rush like. Rush always had a cool , nerdy edge to them. Their music never seemed forced, and I think because they came from a hard rockin blues based style, and evolved from there, it gave them more cred. Bands like Dream Theater came right out if the gate with technical chops, and it just seemed forced.

As soon as Dream Theater released an album they were already a parody of themselves. They're a joke. I saw them live a few months ago and it was difficult not to laugh at the absurdity of the whole thing

Wow, no love here for Dream Theater…. I like them quite a bit myself. Train of Thought is one of the best heavy prog rock albums ever, IMO. I'm sure they've been influenced by Rush, but I surely don't think they try to sound like Rush. I don't really care for the singer, but vocals are low on the list for me and the rest of the band are phenomenal musicians who write great songs (sometimes). I'd estimate that @ 30-40% of their songs are entirely unappealing to me, but the ones I like, I like a lot.

Ah yes. Who's Behind the Door is the one I remember best as well. Great stuff! Not sure why, but whenever I think of Zebra it always also reminds me of Saga.
