Oh and P.S. I personally would never try avocado in a smoothie. Unless you want to test how well your gag reflex works but that's just my personal experience. lol

HAHAHAHA!!!!

I've never had an avocado in a smoothie myself but i have made a salad dressing with half an avocado, blood orange and a lil bit of cayenne pepper. OMG amazing!

I love eating them in guac, raw with a lil sea salt, in a salad, mexican food, stir fry, etc... Raw is my fave way to eat it.

Good luck to you, hope the diet works out. Raw diet is excellent. Have done it in the past for allergies and stuff. To strengthen the stomach lining/immune system, we tried the pro biotic diet too. Fermented veggies cabbage beetroot and gherkins, as dairy can cause. problems.

The fermented veggies are delicious and a good alternative to the yoghurts. All the best with your new eating regime.

Thank you.

I'm sticking with it I think. I have been experiencing WAY WAY less digestion issues eating everything raw, I don't see myself changing any time soon. I have so much energy, feel happier, my skin looks glowy, and my pain seems to have subsided.

But then you come read some of the stupid shit posted in SOCN and you get to deal with a whole different kind of pain...

I have had avocado ice cream, and it is delicious. Kinda pistachio-ish in a different kind of way. Maybe it was just my mind telling me that it's green and that's what you think it tastes like, but I did like it. It has a very silky texture.

I have yet to try that but I've heard it's delicious. Also, fried avocado with ranch, what a treat. But what doesn't taste good with ranch? They should make ranch dressing ice cream.

We make a raw salsa, very very good. I can't tell you what's in it though... secret family recipe.

I can say it's peppers, tomatoes, garlic, cilantro, onion, lime zest and juice with a little salt. Zip it all up in a food processor until smooth-ish.

I discovered the BEST website with recipes Im DYING to try.

http://www.rawmazing.com

If you join her mailing list she sends a pantry list of items you should have around and if they are vegan or gluten free or not.

I'm buying a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables... since it's the start of Spring here lots of fresh produce is around.

Im eating: sprouts like sprouted buckwheat (gluten free) chia seeds, hemp seeds, unhulled sesame seeds etc.. I eat 2 tbsp each day mixed with my food.

Nuts: not too many- they can cause gas pain (i noticed) I like raw almonds and raw cashews... made a few things by soaking them and blending them up into pastes and "cheeses"

TONS of water.. I love fruit infused water it's soooo good been drinking that for a few years now.

We have been soaking chia seeds in almond milk and using them in our morning smoothies... we use frozen berries, no ice.

I've used chia seeds and almond milk to make chia seed pudding for breakfast with fresh fruit and a hint of vanilla :)

I love chia! I want to start making some chia puddings.

VERY easy and VERY yummy!

get a glass mason jar with a lid, 1 cup of almond milk/ coconut milk/ soy milk (whichever you prefer) 3 Tbsp chia seeds, 1 tsp of natural sweeter (honey, maple syrup, agave etc..) 1 1/2 tsp vanilla mix all together... let stand for 20 mins then stir again and put in fridge overnight. In the morning you have vanilla chia seed pudding... I add fresh fruit like bananas and pomegranates, apples... you can add cinnamon to make an apple and cinnamon chia seed pudding... the possibilities are endless!

Just made this for a side for tonight's dinner:

Raw Moroccan Carrot Salad

Serves 6-8 (adjust amount of carrots for serving size)

1 lb of carrots- peeled and shredded in a food processor

1-2 tbsp flat leaf parsley chopped (optional)

Dressing

1/4 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil (or any oil of choice)

1/3 cup fresh lemon juice (I add more before serving for an extra zing!)

2 garlic cloves finely chopped

1 tsp himalayan salt / sea salt

1 tsp ground cumin

1/8 tsp cayenne pepper (more if you want a kick)

Prep

Place carrots and parsley in dressing and stir.

Cover and set in fridge 1 hour to marinate

Serve

Serve with a lemon wedge and parsley as garnish

Serve with your fave entre

Enjoy :D

I was sharing with Ya_Big_Tree that I made my own marinated artichoke hearts this week. I think they turned out FABULOUS, so I thought I would share my "recipe" with you all. I am a "toss it all together and tweak it until it tastes fantastic" kind of cook, so I really don't have measurements. But, this gives you a great base to build upon. Also, if you don't care for the taste of vinegar, I recommend leaving out the balsamic and just using the white vinegar. But, the vinegar is pretty necessary for the marinating process in this case.

Canned artichoke hearts packed in water, most of the water drained (I was able to find organic)

Extra virgin olive oil

White vinegar

Balsamic vinegar

2-3 cloves of garlic, minced or smashed (I use a garlic press)

Spices (all to taste):

Bay leaves

Sea salt

fresh ground pepper

Dill leaves

Ground mustard seed

Red pepper flake (optional)

Place all ingredients into a glass container, making sure that the liquids cover all the artichoke hearts. Place the lid on tight and give it a good shake to mix everything together. Place in a cool, dark place (or even refrigerate) for at least 3 days, shaking the container once daily to stir together spices that might sink to the bottom. The longer they sit, the more infused with flavor they will become. Enjoy on salads, blend and use in dips or as a pesto, or eat on their own!

Side note: I probably would have put some rosemary in the mix if I hadn't have run out of it a few days before. Definitely doing that next time.

Here's how it turned out. I was given a rave about it and asked if we could have this again. :)

Success :D

Last night I meant to go grocery shopping and stock up but by the time I got home Trader Joe's had been closed for an hour. So I bought some raw cheese today, I know, not exactly part of the "raw" diet but I need to wing myself off of dairy again slowly. Right now I'm working on soy and coffee. I bought some nutritional yeast (which I eat to help with hair growth) and then I got a big salad from the local health nut store and loaded it up with grains, beans, some kale, etc.. It was okay. I find that when I don't eat healthy it is harder for me to get back into it because I've developed a taste for the junk food and healthy food is just blah.

I think if I'm feeling really gutsy I might try to make one of those raw recipes from the website.

Oh, BTW... started that lemon/ginger/warm water thing this morning. nothing to report yet.

Went to my parents for dinner yesterday and my dad grilled a beef tenderloin. It was good, but sat in my gut like a rock all night. It's been months since I had any beef and it showed.

Good for you! :)

I didn't find dairy hard to give up because it makes me deathly ill. But I am finding it hard looking for traces of it in everything I eat now. You wouldn't believe how many things have "milk ingredients" in it.
