Hold Your Fire

Because as said in another thread, Mission is the song that got me through a lot of bad crap when I was growing up.

I would of chose Clockwork Angels had it been on here, but I'll go Hemispheres. Hemispheres (song) is my favorite all time then Circumstances, what can I say. That is such an underrated song. The section coming out of the bridge section is the coolest ever!

1. A Farewell To Kings

2. Power Windows

3. Moving Pictures

4. Grace Under Pressure

5. Counterparts

It's been that way for a while, and probably will stay that way.

And if it wasn't for the dense production, 2112 would be up there somewhere.

Hello new here!

Have been a fan for nearly three years, beginning with Moving Pictures. Now own all their albums from Rush to Power Windows, and then Snakes and Arrows and the SUBLIME Clockwork Angels.

However, although I still need to hear a few more records, my current favourite is A Farewell To Kings. I think it is absolutely amazing, and the title track is one of their most underrated in my opinion.

I also think Permanent Waves and Clockwork Angels are close behind.

Least favourite so far is Power Windows. It just leaves me cold, and the songs are not memorable. Hence my reluctance to buy the following few LP's (although Hold Your Fire along with the new boxset is on my list of things to buy soon).

Also new here. Hi all :)

By far A Farewell to Kings.

But the next few do put up a significant resistance

2. Permanent Waves

2.5. Moving Pictures

3. 2112

4/5. Hemispheres/Clockwork Angels (can't decided, so different, both so very awesome).

Good taste and welcome to The Forum. As you can tell by my arm I am partial to A Farewell To Kings as well. I have to say however if you put a gun to my head and said "you can only have and listen to one album the rest of your life"............ I would choose All The World's A Stage. My first album purchase ever and the best to this day! :codger:

Wow...we all seem to love AFWTK immensely!

That album is magical though...

I voted for Hemispheres.....but there's a huge tie!

Caress of Steel, A Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres, Permanent Waves are pretty much tied for first in my book!

Honorable mentions include Moving Pictures, Grace Under Pressure, Counterparts, and Snakes and Arrows.

I don't have trouble listening to 2112, Presto or Clockwork Angels. and I have a special affinity for Rush and Fly By Night.

The rest, I pretty much listen to ONLY when I'm going from top to bottom, or if something gets stuck in my head and I have to pull out a specific album (Power Windows did it to me recently)

Now live albums? I can listen to any of them, really...

Seriously? You mean, like, of all time??

When I started listening to them at the age of eleven, it was 2112 (my brother's copy) via AtWaS (my copy). Then my first concert was Permanent Waves, so that album became my favorite. I had time to have A Farewell to Kings and Fly by Night as favorites, before and between when Moving Pictures and Signals came out, both of which also became favorites for a time, the period that started the process of each new album becoming my favorite after repeated listenings, something I needed increasingly with each new album to get accustomed to its divergent/unusual nature.

There are standouts based on deeper emotional connections, of course. As mentioned, my first concert PeW. Grace Under Pressure was a highlight because it seemed like such a radical departure, and I was in the front row for the concert (in front of Alex).

Power Windows was the first album that had romantic ramifications, being part of the soundtrack to a fresh long distance relationship/infatuation; Hold Your Fire played a bitter sweet backdrop to one of the hardest moments in my life, so it eventually became a fave of sorts even though it was the first album at the time that I didn't greet as an advance over the previous one; Counterparts piqued a hyperenthusiastic return for me and became a favorite almost immediately.

In and along the way, with time in between albums, I discovered a couple of past favorites: Waaay later than you might imagine and probably to fill the void that Presto left in my heart, Caress of Steel was an album whose excellence I realized. So that's been a favorite off and on along with Hemispheres, which at some point only a couple few years ago finally rediscovered as "more Permanent Waves" than Permanent Waves.

Roughly, my favorite album has been 2112, Permanent Waves, Fly by Night, A Farewell to Kings, Signals, Moving Pictures, Grace Under Pressure, Power Windows, Hold Your Fire, Caress of Steel, and Hemispheres, in just about that order. I suppose I'll click on Permanent Waves.

Ok, so I just got Signals, my first post-Moving Pictures Rush album (aside from Clockwork Angels and a recent live album), and I have to say, I love it, but I have zero clue where to place it in my list of favorite Rush albums. On one hand it somewhat reminds me of the fresh more modern sound of PeW, tempting me to put it tied with that or MP around position number two, but on the other hand I'd then be saying that I like it better than 2112, which I'm not entirely sure I do. I could put it at third with 2112, but of course then I'd be saying I like it better than Hemispheres/Clockwork Angels, which I'm still not quite sure if I do...picking favorites has always been a challenge for me. :(

Well, I think I'll say that Clockwork Angels is beginning to beat out Hemispheres for me, which leaves a nice little space for me to fill with Signals.

1. AFWTK

2. PeW

2.5. MP

3. 2112

4. CA

5. Signals

6. Hemispheres

Yay! I did it! :D

Actually, after more listening, I've realized I'm completely hooked on Signals right now. I practically can't stop listening to it. New list!

1. A Farewell To Kings

2. Permanent Waves

2.5. Moving Pictures AND Signals (officially tied in my book)

3. 2112 (the second side of the album can't stand up to Signals, so it got passed)

4. Clockwork Angels

5. Hemispheres

Now ^that^ sure brings back memories of an album in permanent rotation...

His world is under anaesthetic

Subdivided and synthetic

His reliance on the giants

In the science of the day

He picks up scraps of information

He's adept at adaptation

Because for strangers and arrangers

Constant change is here to stay

Oh dear, I'm going to have to rethink my fav list. I just got GuP, and I adore D.E.W. And R.S.A., but there's three others I really like, and three more that have yet to make much of a mark on me.

Here's my preliminary update, subject to change at a moment's notice:

1. AFTK

2. PeW

2.5. MP/Signals

3. 2112

4. CA

5. Hemispheres

6. GuP

It's a great album, but it's yet to prove to me it's deserving of a higher ranking. Great lyrics, but the music is quite "samey." I need more listens.

oooh this is so hard!

Im gonna make a list!

1. Hemispheres

2. Caress Of Steel

3. 2112

4. A Farewell To Kings

5. Permanent Waves

6. Counterparts

7. Vapor Trails

8. Fly By Night

9. Snakes & Arrows

10. Hold Your Fire

This is not a 100% true list, I change all the time, because I love every Rush album in one way or another, but for now, I think its like this.
