hobo73
My mother's family was Polish, and they came up with two "delicacies" that make the list: Kiszka (as in "Who Stole the...): Polish blood sausage Czarnina: A slightly sweet soup with a stock that is thickened with duck's blood. Mom's house was near an outdoor market commonly known as the Old Polish Market" in Detroit where live ducks were sold. Yuck! Daj mi piwa (Gimme a beer)! AHHHHH polish food. :)Yeah, those 2 I could do without lmao. My grandmother's family on my dad's side was Polish, and everytime we visited she would make an absolute feast. OMG. POLISH FOOD FEAST.She always made extra Potash for me =D
The Analog Grownup
Has anyone ever tried haggis? Besides from the bloated sheep stomach, the content looks rather delicious . At the moment, one of the nastiest things I ever ate was Campbell's "healthy request" soups, particularly the clam chowder. edit: when I was about 4 years old, I had a crown put on a tooth, so I couldn't drink any sugary sodas. But the woman who looked after me and other kids used to give me something called Diet Pepsi. Nasty shit! Ever since then, I've stayed away from diet sodas. Most national brands of "Diet" soda are sweetened with aspartame, a suspected neurotoxin or "excitoxoin". Fortunately my local yokel grocery chain's diet soda uses sucralose (Splenda), and I use that. For more info, check out Excitotoxins: The Taste that Kills by Russell Blaylock. Interesting reading about food additives, including the original nasty, MSG (yep, "Chinese Food Syndrome" is real.) Diet coke tastes awful. I'll prefer a regular sugar over some chemical. At least we know what sugar does to the body in the long run. And I never understood those who claims that diet coke taste just like regular?! JohnnyBlaze
Shirako...translated as "white child". It's milt Oh come on, no need for biological niceties. It's sperm sacs, blegh. You've posted about that nasty-ass stuff before; I did not realize you'd actually eaten it.Yes, I did post about it before and I did eat it. What I did NOT try was Filipino balut (the chicken fetus still in the egg with hair and beak).Shirako: the nastiest food I've eaten.http://www.sushi-yu.com/images/shirako.jpg Balut: the nastiest food I've seen/smelled but refuse to try...and I'm pretty adventurous when it comes to eating and drinking http://img.diariodelviajero.com/2008/10/Pato.jpg

JohnnyBlaze
I'm glad I just ate otherwise I would have lost my appetite.Just be glad you can't smell balut from your computer screen. It's the foulest odor from food you can ever imagine. Well no, you can't imagine the smell. It's an odor that's probably created and bottled from one of the innermost circles of Hell then poured over that slimy chicken fetus.
Lost In Xanadu
Duck..... Tastes like tough, dark meat chicken and fart.Lamb......tastes like mediocre beef and fart.Come on now... you must have had some shitty preparation. I'm not a big fan of duck, but if it's got a nice crispy skin and is med-rare, it is good. I have only had it twice while on vacation at fancy restaurants. Lamb I have quite often, and if you marinade it, all of the gaminess goes away. It's as tender as any beef I've ever had. Once again, it has to be prepared and cooked correctly.

I've always hated lamb, until I had it prepared the right way. My sister knows how to make it (and just as importantly, where to get good cuts of it), so when she makes it I chow down. And I've had tasty duck more often than not. You can't go into it expecting it to be another version of chicken.

Same with duck. It's a nice change of pace. You know what is absolutely delicious? Rabbit. I could never kill a rabbit. Too damn cute. But I'll eat rabbit all day long. Can't remember where in Asia I saw this but the chef was making a salad dressing type paste out of various spices, vinegar, soy sauce, and ground earthworms. f**k man! My dad likes to tell the story about his experience in USAF arctic survival training. They were "captured" and had to "escape". Once free they did get a minimal food drop. Said food drop included one live rabbit. They tied it to a tree for a few days before someone finally drew the short straw and had to kill it. Principled Man
I attended an international food tasting gig at college one day, and I sampled some Korean rice noodles. They were literally transparent, which was pretty cool, but the sauce was ABSOLUTELY REVOLTING. The aftertaste stayed in my mouth for days, no matter the toothpaste or mouthwash I used. NEVER AGAIN. toscanobarga
Haggis is Yummy. It's no different than eating a hot dog, if you knew what you went into one of those..... Anyhow during one of my many trips to Korea my host had me try hong-oh, it's rude to turn stuff down when a company big shot insists you try it, it was nasty as hell and couldn't get the taste out of my mouth for hours. Barely made it through one bite without throwing up. Declined the rest, but that's ok, in their eyes you did good and didn't insult them by trying it. It's basically fermented fish, like eating a piece of cartilage soaked in ammonia for a few years. Nasty as hell.

I've tried it numerous times due to people telling me the problem was I "didn't get good sushi, this is the good stuff" and still, blech. Way overrated. The way it was built-up I was expecting so much more, it was a fine restaurant as well. I still can't down these damn things without gagging, no matter what they're coated in...truly vile! http://i42.tinypic.com/110vptd.jpg Edited August 23, 2013 by Steevo

Buy them fresh. Cut them in half, toss with olive oil, salt and pepper. Bake them at 375 unti the edges start to get black and the outer layers are crisp. About 40 minutes. Trust me, it's not even the same vegetable.
