I'm glad he's keeping the same band. This is the best one i've seen him with live. I'm really glad Orianthi is staying to. For whatever reason, she just fits perfectly in Cooper's band. I can't hear the opening riff to No More Mr. Nice Guy anymore without picturing her playing it. Last summer when I saw them open for Maiden I got one of her guitar picks :haz:

I wonder if Orianthi is gonna stick around and record an album with Cooper? It would be very interesting to hear what they can come up with together.

I didn't see the Maiden/Cooper tour, so I'm looking forward to see Orianthi live. Very happy to see Ryan back in the band as well.

OK, so it is time to resurrect this thread...

I've begun another Alice Cooper listening marathon. (listening to his albums, studio/live/compilations) start to finish in chronological order.

So, I've just finished with the Alice Cooper Group era and am absolutely astonished at the collection of music they made together in just a few short years.

The first two albums "Pretties for You" and "Easy Action" were more Psychedelic/Acid Rock in nature and were released on Frank Zappa's Straight label.

Bob Ezrin then took a hold of the band and they hit it big...in a big way.

They (The Alice Cooper Group) released 5 albums (Love it to Death; Killer; School's Out, Billion Dollar Babies & Muscle of Love) between the years of 1971 and 1974.

Four went platinum and the 5th (Muscle of Love, produced by Jack Douglas) went gold.

These albums are simply amazing...if you haven't heard them start to finish, you really owe it to yourself to check them out.

Up next for me, is more Alice Cooper as he goes solo with the classic, "Welcome to My Nightmare".

~Cheers, RGLT

 Alice Cooper! I love Alice Cooper! A nicer group of men you'd never meet (outside of :rush: that is  ). I saw them in 1974 at Madison Square Garden after Billion Dollar Babies came out. Then, I worked at the law firm that represented them and they would often come up. Never met him, but his band often. When they would see you on the street, they'd actually wave and say hello. Anyway, I had every album they did back then. What I loved the most about him was that his onstage persona was all nothing but one big act. He was the most down-to-earth guy in everyday life. He still is.

Whatever happened to his original band? I see he has all new guys.

The original band broke up after Muscle Of Love back in the 70s. Since Welcome To My Nightmare, Cooper has been a solo act. He's had various muscians write, record and tour with him since then. He always picks people who can play really well to back him up.

From the original group, I know guitarist Glen Buxton passed away a number of years ago. Michael Bruce did record with Cooper again on his new album but i'm not sure what he was doing before that. Bob Ezrin has been on again off again producer and co-writer with Alice for decades now.

Glen Buxton - he was the nicest guy. One day I was crossing 56th Street and he was in a car sitting at a red light. When he recognized me, he actually waved to me. That's the kind of guys they were. Not too impressed with their fame. Sorry to hear he is gone.

Thanks for updating me on Alice Cooper. Billion Dollar Babies is still my favorite album. I love the way he did "Hello Hooray". That whole album is great.

"Billion Dollar Babies" just celebrated it's 40th anniversary.

It was the only thing I asked for Christmas when I was 10 years old.

"Santa" brought it against me Mum's better judgement.

I was mezmerized by the cover, the inserts (which all got tacked to my bedroom wall that Christmas afternoon) and the songs.

I just listened to it a few days ago and it still blows me away!

I may get it. I just checked at Amazon and the price is right - $1.80! Also looked through the song titles. Hahahaha - "Elected" - hahaha. My favorite lines then and now are:

And if I am elected

I promise the formation of a new party

A third party, the wild party

I know we have problems

We got problems right here in central city

We have problems on the north, south, east and west

New York city, Saint Louis, Philadelphia, Los Angeles

Detroit, Chicago, everybody has problems

And personally I don't care

They did so many good songs. I kind of lost touch with them after 1975 or so - Rush came along you know - and a whole lot of other great bands. It was hard to keep up with all of them.

I'm glad Alice is still around and active. He was at the top in the early to mid seventies. He had this girlfriend, Cyndi Lang, back then. I wonder whatever happened to her. They were together for a long time.

I know Cooper has been married to the same woman since the late 70s or early 80s. I don't know her name though.

Since it's been such a long time you should try to start catching up on all the Alice Cooper material you've missed. Some of his albums have been hit and miss but every album at least has a few good or great songs on them worth listening to.

He is awesome live now. For a guy in his mid 60s he still puts on one of the best shows you'll see. He's been clean and sober for 30 years now and that no doubt helps his live performances to be so good.

I'm glad he still has fans so that he can give life performances. I forgot - but you are right - he used to drink a case of beer a day I think I remember reading back then.

He was in the newspaper out here a few years ago. I laughed at what he said because he was right, and I thought to myself that he hadn't changed at all. Still down to earth.

J2112YYZ, what is the best album he has done since 1980?

J2112YYZ, what is the best album he has done since 1980?

My favorite he's done since 1980 is probably Brutal Planet which was released in 2000. He did go pretty heavy and dark on the album but it's still Cooper all the way. The Last Temptation, which came out in 1994 is also really good. If you're want to hear what the more commercial stuff sounded like check out Trash (1989) and Hey Stoopid (1991). I'm sure you would know some of the songs off there like Poison, Hey Stoopid and Feed My Frankenstein.

Here's the title track off Brutal Planet:

This is my favorite off The Last Temptation:

The Last Temptation (I've been on a Alice Marathon and The Last Temptation is up next) might be in my top 3 Coop records and I just love Brutal Planet...that was a great tour. "The Eyes of Alice Cooper" is another fantastic album. Of course, his latest, "Welcome 2 My Nightmare" reconnects him with Bob Ezrin and is an instant classic.

Hey I remember hearing way back that he wrote one of his albums while in a mental institution.. I think the album was around 1979.. Can't remember the name. Is that true or only partially true?? Was it a good album?

1978, "From the Inside", another great concept album where each of the songs were written from the main charater's (Alice) perspective, or from the perspective of one of the fellow patients.

"Nurse Rozetta" a song about a sexy nurse and a repressed member of the clergy.

Welcome To My Nightmare is my favorite album from him and one of the best albums ever. On his last tour he opened the show with The Black Widow. That was such a great way to start the show :haz:

And combined with his Another Brick in the Wall finale? That was amazing.
