This is a hard one, isn't it?

At least for the ones who like italian prog rock. I enjoy both, but i like Banco del Mutuo Soccorso a little more, i find it more focused and musically powerful, specially for Francesco Di Giacomo vocals.

So, whats your choice.

Ha ha! This time *I* am the one understanding the lyrics and you don't, right??

Actually, it's hard for me to say: PFM are more tight in their playing, Banco tend to be more loose. Both of their lyrics are terrible. Really. Cringe inducing. Darwin is such a mess of a theme, it's almost so bad it's good. Impressioni di settembre would make Pete Sinfield commit suicide.

As simpathy goes, I'm more for Banco. They also endured better. Both bands suffered terribly in the 80s and made horrible work.

I'd suggest the two live albums of PFM pairing with Fabrizio de Andrè, probably the greates italian singer-songwriter ever. You have stellar songs and great prog arrangements. Check this out.

Oh, and at least you should have included Le Orme in this poll! They are the italian EL&P!!!!

Part of my enjoyment of PFM & Banco (and Le Orme for that matter) hinges on the fact that I have no clue what the lyrics are. Every time I've heard an Italian prog album where they did a version in English (PFM's Photos of Ghosts, Banco by Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso and Latte E Miele's' Papillion), the English version has paled in comparison, but I don't know if that's because the lyrics were translated badly (sometimes the lyrics were rewritten entirely), or sung by people who didn't know English well enough, or other reasons.

Anyway, for those who haven't heard it, this is one of the best prog songs of all time - I couldn't find the entire song on it's own, but it's the first 15-16 minutes here (the whole album is amazing too):

Me too Goobs, I haven't a frigging clue what they're wittering on about, but it sounds great!

That's exactly what every italian says about english-speaking bands! :laughing guy: :laughing guy:

That is, unless you're a nerd and actually READ the lyrics on the cover! :D-13:

I just checked out Le Orme, i should have included them in the poll, really good stuff.

But i still prefer Banco del Mutuo Soccorso.

If you haven't already, check out Museo Rosenbach, Celeste, and Alphataurus. I'm only familiar with a handful of Italian prog bands, but those are three of my favorites so far.

Resurrecting this thread to say that I'll interview Premiata Forneria Marconi later in the week. Does anybody have a question for them?

Dove il gabinetto per huomini?

That's about the extent of my Italian.
