    Freewill Humor

So, a friend of mine (who knows I'm a Rush fanatic) just wrote this on my Facebook Wall. "So, today, in a class on health policy, a professor asked me why anyone would want canadian healthcare. Various answers arose, and finally I said "You can choose to have bad health ignoring doctors voice, and if you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice. You can choose from far and near for diseases that can kill, but I will choose a path that's clear, I will choose free pills." Only he got it. We bonded hard." I had to share. =)
  2. I doubt this is true. Regardless, it's none of our business. And I question how good of a friend he is posting this online for the world to read. Disrespectful of Neil, imo. And his line of (paraphrasing) 'I'm sure it's been said that drugs are not a stranger of Rush' is no excuse.
  3. Couldn't agree more. I thought that BU2B far outshined Caravan last tour. The integration/timing of the steam effects with the opening riff was stunning to say the least. I also feel the track is important as well because it represents the protagonist's outright defiance for the society in which he resides. It has the most 2112 feel of the entire album, imo.
  4. I'll be there! Section 8, Row E! Wooooot!

    Next Rush Record

Steven Wilson needs to produce/mix. Thoughts?
  6. Also, Steven Wilson needs to produce/mix the next record, 'nuff said.
  7. QUOTE (Astroboy2112 @ Sep 8 2012, 12:27 AM) Have you listened to Nick R's body of work? No right? Do you think that Rush hired Nick without hearing his previous work...Get out of your comfort zone, grab some of Nick R's produced records and comeback to this album and maybe you'll get it but going from listening to Permanent Waves (1981) to CA (2012) wont help you gain an understanding of CA at the sonic level. I like Nick. In fact, his work with Foo Fighters with 'In Your Honor' (at least the first disc) is one of my favorite records because it's so raw. I agree, it's refreshing to hear Rush this heavy. I really don't contribute it as much to Nick though. I do feel he's really pushed them musically and has broken down their hesitation to try to hold back on the theatrics of their playing. i.e. compare presto to 2112, there came a point where I think maturity settled in and they made a conscious effort to not play very flashy (*cough Dream Theater). In that sense, I do feel he's brought out more of a youthful spirit to them. However, Vapor Trails is heavy as *&^%. Production aside, those were some heavy songs and Nick was obviously not involved with that record. While I liked S&A there were many sleeper moments. I wouldn't exactly call it a heavy record (not saying you did, I'm just examining all of Nick's work with the band currently, as opposed to just CA).
  8. QUOTE (losingit2k @ Oct 24 2012, 04:51 PM) It also shows that fans will usually pull towards what they heard when they were exposed to RUSH. What songs were released when they fell in LOVE with RUSH. I suppose this is true for every band but more so with RUSH since they've had such a lengthy and varied sounding career. I agree with this. My step dad introduced me to Rush when I was 16 (I'm now 26) and the first album he gave to me was Roll the Bones. Where's my Thing remains one of my favorite tracks so I am beyond excited for my show next week. The fact there's a solo in the middle makes the deal even sweeter.
  9. I found tickets, this post can be deleted if you like good mods. Getting excited!!
  10. Hoping a fellow rush fan can help me out. I need two tickets to the show next Saturday. Looking for anything but lawn, and ideally the middle of the venue forward. Happy to pay a premium for helping me out. Will use paypal today. Please send a PM. Thank you!
  11. This is what we in the bdsm world call top drop. But really it can be spun in relation to coming down from anything that brings one heightened joy. Same thing happens to me on really excellent weekends or vacation. You spend an immense amount of time time psyching yourself up for a particular event, it arrives, then inevitably passes and you're left with the inevitable realization that life goes on. Personally for me, I use concerts as an escape and once they pass it's back to the same old grind. ...but anywho, my show isn't until November!
  12. QUOTE (LeaveMyThingAlone @ Sep 12 2012, 09:59 AM) You know, one thing I will add as a slight criticism or at least something that does confuse me about this setlist: There are a bunch of songs between staples and deep cuts. Songs that they have actually played quite a bit on various tours but they aren't considered the hits or classics. Songs like Red Sector A, Big Money, Force Ten, Dreamline. I'm not sure why they're playing those 4 songs. They've been played a bunch and it's not like they get the casual fans charged up. Look at what a few simple changes would do to it Limelight Subdivisions Freewill Grand Designs The Body Electric/Middletown Dreams Territories The Analog Kid Bravado/The Pass Where's My Thing? Far Cry Caravan Clockwork Angels The Anarchist Carnies Seven Cities of Gold The Wreckers Headlong Flight Halo Effect The Garden Manhattan Project/Dreamline YYZ 2112 (Overture/Temples of Syrinx/Grand Finale) The Spirit of Radio La Villa Strangiato Tom Sawyer Just added Limelight, La Villa, and Freewill and took out Big Money, Force Ten, and Red Sector A...3 songs they have played a ton. I think these 3 simple changes would make everyone happy They haven't played Big Money since the VT tour -- ELEVEN years ago. Try again.
  13. QUOTE (rayrushray @ Sep 11 2012, 11:48 PM) Inconsiderate. Lazy. Thoughtless. Words That I never associated with Rush. Lazy? How is Rush virtually completely redrafting the playbook from square one lazy? Would you really prefer to hear the same tracks tour, after tour, after tour? Also, inconsiderate? How is them playing some homage to long neglected tracks of the past inconsiderate? Sorry you didn't like it, as other's have poignantly pointed out, sucks to be you. I love it.
  14. No, what I'm merely saying is that EVERY single opinion on this board is a subjective one, hence OPINION. You, correctly, say your personal creation setlist is your own, and therefore, do not expect everyone else to like it. Yet, you then expect everyone else to agree to a blanket statement that WMT? is the worst song they have ever written without specifying that this is strictly according to you alone. I was merely pointing out that I would bet cash that there are others who would argue the opposite. I then pointed out that such argument is pointless anyway, as I am stoked for my show in November regardless.
