One of ESPN's best broadcasters has passed away at the age of 61.

He hosted "The Sports Reporters" just as well as his predecessor, Dick Schapp.

The man was really, really GOOD. :ebert:

Many of the ESPN's best (in my opinion) are now gone/leaving. Tom Jackson, Mike Tirico, and now John.

RIP

You were a good role model for many of today's broadcasters. You will certainly be missed.

I saw the news on ESPN this morning. Very sad. He was a mainstay on The Sports Reporters and a classy gentleman. He definitely loved his hockey and was a strong promoter of the sport. He will be missed.

I haven't seen ESPN in months but it just seems they're are in constant change. JS was one of my favorite broadcasters he was so smooth in his delivery and his love of hockey. He played the sport and played it well, the man will be sorely missed. RIPEACE

Before his storied TV career, John Saunders was just a puck-loving college kid living his dream at Western Michigan.

Look men die ok? It's nature's way. Just be glad your day isn't today...

Day isn't over yet...

Aye...

WMU - my alma mater. John was there about 4-5 years before me. My kid played on the same ice. Classy guy, never the douchebag attention seeker, RIP Bronco buddy.

Really a shock. :( I didn't know he had been ill at all.

He and Stuart Scott are probably having a really good conversation right now.

Paraphrasing a statement from the family...they don't know all the specifics but he was not in good health very recently and was unresponsive this morning. RIP.
