TRAFFIC

I don't even know what to say other than I think this forgotten band deserves their own thread. Traffic was an incredible band that was gone almost as soon as they showed up. In retrospect, it sure seems that way. But they lasted a lot longer than Blind Faith. :)

Lorraine, when I saw the thread title, I thought you were going to talk about the NJ Turnpike :D

ok, seriously, Traffic is one of the bands I think I need to listen to more, as everything I have heard is really good .... My sis loved them, and pretty much anything Steve Windwood has done that I am familiar with has been good - that Go album he did with Stomu Yamashta is great ..

I always liked their sound, before Steve Winwood went solo. They were huge on the radio in Pittsburgh, especially the Low Spark of High Heeled Boys and John Barleycorn Must Die albums, I guess that's why those ended up as my favorites as well. :) I was surprised that not much has been done on Youtube with their songs, just the recordings put up with one photo; but I always liked these 2 songs.

Lucas, you must. But I sometimes think that they lose a lot taking them out of the time they were around. That whole late sixties/early seventies (when the hippie era was fading away) was an odd time to be growing up. It had an atmosphere that I can't describe. Traffic fit right in. Especially Low Spark.

Re: the NJTP - yeah, traffic - remember coming home from work and just sitting there going nowhere on account of an accident or some other reason.

Chica, thanks for posting these. Great songs I had forgotten about. Without my album collection to refer to, if someone like yourself doesn't mention the song, my brain will most likely resurrect it in my mind.

I'm going to listen to these as soon as I finish cleaning.

Little Stevie Winwood still kills it.

He was a kid when I was a kid, but there he was with the Spencer Davis Band cranking out hits. I was surprised to read he and his family live here in the USA - in the south somewhere.

I read that the last lines of Low Spark and High Heeled Boys were furiously being written as he was recording his vocals and then thrust in front of his face just in the nick of time. I'll see if I can find the article and post it.

John Barleycorn Must Die is an amazing album

Love, love them. So many great albums.

I had all their albums. Traffic was THE band back then to space out to. Especially Dear Mr. Fantasy.

Those were the days! :codger:

Oh did you take me back, Chica. Honestly don't remember the last time I heard either one of those songs, but I went right back in time. Had forgotten all about those two gems. Absolutely love them.

Still can't figure out what the heck Steve is singing. Couldn't back then, still can't today. I think I'll google the lyrics and get a surprise - I'm sure what I think he's singing and what I've been singing isn't close to what he is actually singing.

 Was I ever off the mark with the lyrics

I will have to Google them today also! I always liked those songs but yes, to tell the truth with Winwood's voice and then the organ playing along, you couldn't always understand them!

I thought the same thing when I was listening how often drowned out he was by that organ.

Worse than Empty Pages was Rock and Roll Stew. At least i was somewhat close with Empty Pages; was so far off the mark with Rock and Roll Stew it was pitiful.

Blind Faith - Do What You Like. FANTASTIC

My buddy used to play the drum solo to this song....I find it boring.

I always thought Clapton's guitar solo in this song was one in his top 10 solos.

As Lorraine and I were discussing.... they just don't make music like this anymore :codger:

He looks out of it. I wonder what he was on? (Edit: They said he was on acid - I thought those massive pupils and glazed over eyes looked familiar.)

 Steve was one multi-talented young man.
