I chose Nirvana, but i love all four.

I like most of Nirvana, and some SG and PJ.

I find AiC too amelodic to enjoy.

They are amelodic, but they have some great heavy tracks, like Them Bones.

Ok, now you guys are just making up the word "amelodic" and forcing it to have meaning.

Seriously. f***in Amelodic .. LABT has his pipe and robe on while typing that

Amelodic means without melody. Or being deliberatley non melodic. Like the musical sounds made whilst one is tuning their instruments.

It IS a word but its being misused here.

Yeah. What I was implying (and clearly doing badly) was that "amelodic" is an obscure word that (to me) is being forced into this exchange.

It's germane in that it's central to my point; I find their songs to be without melody. When AiC comes on Lithium (for example), I invariably change the channel.

The only grunge band I see on the list is Nirvana.

Pearl Jam is a rock band.

AIC and Soundgarden are metal.

For the purpose of this thread, AIC gets my vote.

They are all out of the Seattle scene of the same era.

Still not sure how to classify a 'gunge' band other than the location where the band originated from and the clothes they wear...

I voted AIC.

It is hard for me to choose between Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, but I went with Soundgarden. I like both bands and have all their albums. I like Nirvana too but only listen to them sporadically. I never listen to AIC. No reason really, just never got into them.

Yeah I can understand that.

However, every time I mention there being too many music genres and the uselessness of them all, nobody ever comments...because the truth is is that TRF loves all the genres and sub-genres and categories and this and that.

Having said that, what exactly is "grunge" then to you?

Grunge and AOR are annoying labels. But both make sense when identifying era and audience haha

Yea grunge was a marketing ploy of the 90's......nothing more.

Soundgarden as an exmple was more in line with Classic Sabbath IMO.

Mick

Grunge suits the actual look of the bands...which I prefer to the hair metal bands. Sheesh they looked...erm...

Hairspray.
