Independence Day: Resurgence

Recommended Posts

I know a lot of people didn't like the first one and a lot more people hate sequels, but that doesn't change the fact that this movie will probably be one of this summer's hits if it's any good. And sequels can be good.

In looking back, when I saw Independence Day, I really liked it. At the time it was fresh. It was before the Transformer movies and before the surge of the end of the world movies like Armageddon, Deep Impact and 2012. Will Smith was best known for being a sitcom teen and CGI was still cutting edge. Resurgence has to really step up its game to compete with its predecessor.

If they do a good job with this, it might be a really fun movie to watch.

Roland Emmerich films are 0-5 with me.

I'm going to have to skip this.

Stargate is the only one of his films that's watchable for me. Which is not saying I love it.

Well, that's the one that i ALMOST gave a "pass" BUT then I remembered how bored I was when I saw it at the cinema. So, it's not terrible IMHO but I couldn't give it a positive rating.

Naturally, there's already talk of ANOTHER sequel to this new sequel.

I don't care about how bad his films are they are just meant to be fun.

I LOVE THESE FILMS! Just good natured Hollywood junk.

I like Independence Day. Saw it in the theater when it was released. I've always been into alien/UFO stuff anyways. So that probably helped with my enjoyment of the film.

I'm interested to see what they do with the new one.

in this life, I've found that if I always let 'the past' influence my future, I OFTEN MISS things I actually ENJOY. I'd keep that in mind. may turn out to be true, but it may NOT.

I was glad that Brent Spiner, Jeff Goldblum and Judd Hirsch are all back....

My parents bought the first Independence Day movie (VHS) when it came out. I watched it and then told them that they should take it back for a refund. I rooted for the ALIENS, as the humans were so awful...... :laughing guy:

My mother wants to see the sequel, so I'll take her to the theater this weekend. I'll keep an open mind, as it surely can't be worse than the first one!!

I though ID4 was really cool when it came out. Of course, most of us were relatively ignorant about computers at the time and didn't realize how big some plot holes were. Still, good fun.

This thought applies with things that matter.

This is a cheesedick Hollywood popcorn movie that doesn't.

I LOVE THESE FILMS! Just good natured Hollywood junk.

I get it. They're supposed to be fun.

That's it though: they're not fun to me.

I'm not thinking about this in the same frame of mind as Alien & Aliens. Back in '96, I knew ID4 was supposed to be popcorn. It was but it was also a little stale popcorn.

Hey, how much of Black Book is in English?

I'm not about to watch it dubbed in Japanese. And if it's mostly in Dutch or German, there's a good chance that there wouldn't be any English subtitles out here.

I guess I could find it on YouTube or something. But I'd rather rent it from the shop.

Mostly Dutch and a bit of English. It's so beautifully acted you really don't need a dub.

I have never known anyone to dislike this film.

With any non-English speaking movie, I'd like it in the original language (whatever it may be) with English subtitles.

But ok, I'll look for it at the shop.

I just got back from seeing it, and I have to say, this review nails it.

The movie is too overburdened with new characters, each dragging their own sub plot along. There's just not enough time in a two hour film to properly develop all of the ideas that this movie presents.

As a result, the plot is left full of little holes and unbelievable inconsistencies. But if you can suspend your disbelief and roll with it, the movie is a blast. It doesn't take itself too seriously and neither should you. Have fun with it.

Exactly how I feel about all Roland Emmerich films. Just go for the ride! It's always fun, just switch your mind off and watch things blow up!

I love 2012 for just that reason!
