Bit of an over the top poll, but I'm curious how everyone feels here.

 

First, which of Rush's multi-part epics is your favorite? You all have one, I know it. Second, which individual part from each is your favorite? (Xanadu not included because it isn't split into different parts).

 

I'm interested to see how you all respond, feel free to discuss as well :)

Lots of work here. Unfortunately it forces us to select 2 options for best part of an epic. My primaries were epic:2112. Part no one at the bridge.

 

The second part should be multiple choice, I'm not too good at this, so I could've goofed something up. It's a little messy but wanted to get this question out there.

Shoot! Not trying to be a downer, but it's not letting me vote for Xanadu because I have not completed both parts of the poll ??!! So maybe you have to list Xanadu in the second part anyway so Xanadu people can vote in both parts?? I'm not sure since I haven't ever set up a poll here but I wanted to let you know, BMG. Thanks. :)

Best epic: 2112

Best parts of each epic: Of The Battle for By-Tor, Under the Shadow for the Necromancer, No One At the Bridge for Fountain, Grand Finale for 2112, Part III of Cygnus, Cygnus from Hemispheres, Strangiato theme from La Villa, Tide Pools and Hyperspace from Natural Science, and New York from Camera Eye.

Best Rush epic?

 

2112 followed by Red Barchetta (shorter but it definitely packs the same punch), then Xanadu.

I was questioning a couple of the entries being epics but how is red barchetta an epic?

 

I guess it's not really, but to me the story it tells, the visuals it creates in the lyrics and the feel of the music hits me more than any other Rush song bar 2112. I personally get such a strong cinematic vibe from the song and for that reason it feels more epic than most of their long songs.

This was very hard, but I went with Lamneth for the lyrics, storytelling, and uniqueness. I love The Necromaner and all of the epics, and I went with the Presentation and the Stragiato Theme as the best parts, though those votes are probably influenced by my love for the songs.

I absolutely adore The Fountain Of Lamneth. Musicall it's one of the bands most thrillingly creative moments. And the atmosphere is just off the charts!

 

I have said many a time though that I would take Caress Of Steel over any seventies album in a heartbeat. Even I doubt A Farewell To Kings could survive a battle...I really love Caress Of Steel.

 

Something about those epics just get to me.

 

Maybe I should finally vote in this thread and pick Lamneth.

I agree with you, the entire second half of the album is dripping with atmosphere, I love it, so calming at points.
