Bands You're Obsessing Over Right Now

Recommended Posts

Spock's Beard

Enchant.

i Truly believe the Beard are one of the best prog bands around.

Mick

ABSOLUTELY!

People get on them from wearing their influences on their sleeve........so freakin' what.

they are masters. and the discography contains some of my fav prog epics ever.

Harm's Way

Flow

The Light

The Water

Healing colors of Sound

The Great Nothing

At the End of the Day

As far as the Mind Can See

All stand up to ANY classic, IMO.

Back in 2000 I was listening to the same old prog bands and finding them just a little bit boring.

Ina local charity shop I came across two albums by Spock's Beard,The Kindness Of Strangers and V.So glad i brought them.Great albums, and ive followed them ever since.

transatlantic was the gateway for me. i liked all the members. but neal Morse just had a charisma about him. looked him up on wikipedia. said what the hell is a spock's beard, lol

Rest is history.

they've yet to put out a band album. perfect body of work. other's are weaker but no bad albums.

Mick

Neal Morse solo is a beast!

If you can get passed his obvious religious beliefs then your onto another winner! Some of the instrumental passages during his songs are excellent! His voice isnt bad too!!!

Yea i have all of his solo. I'm as far atheist as you can get and i don't mind, lol.

his live shows are spectacular too.......

Actually hiss last 2 solo albums really pulled back on the religious stuff. i mean it's there but he rained it in a bit.

my top neal solo albums

One

Sola Scriptaura

Testimony 2

Momentum

?

Fantastic prog albums.

^^I love Depeche Mode

Not really bands, but I've heard Escape (The Pina Colada song) twice this week so I went ahead and bought it off iTunes. And lately I've been hooked on listening to Joe Jackson.

Playing Steel The Light.

This is wonderful! I get a Dokken vibe from the vocals. What great stuff!!

I envy those who lived through the eighties. And earlier.

I Wouldn't wish the 80s on my worst enemy.

I wouldn't play Zappa to a dead dog I'd be too worried it'd be bored into deeper depths of death.

 Fashion-wise, for sure! I just went to a 30th wedding anniversary and in pictures of the original wedding I'm sporting a nullet and wearing a ridiculous Miami Vice sportscoat. Yellow, of course. Probably wearing pink loafers, too!

Nothing, and I repeat, nothing was worse than the 70s!

Cinerama, the side project of Wedding Present front man Dave Gedge. Like Rush, Zeppelin, Wire or The Church, I'll periodically go on WP/Cinerama binges. I'm entering a Cinerama binge. Pulled into work blasting this out of my speakers. If you like the soft-loud-soft-loud style of Nirvana and the Pixies, you'll like these guys. The essentials are Va Va Voom (their first) and the two singles compilations, This is Cinerama and Holiday. Torino is also great but stylistically is more like WP.

Every decade looks back at the previous ones and how goofy the fashions look to them. Usually the most outlandish stuff is pulled up for comparison. Par for the course.
