And why do they have to keep destroying The Enterprize?

They haven't destroyed an Enterprise since Star Trek Generations.

The Enterprise usually does not fare well in movies:

The Wrath of Khan: Shot up all to hell by Khan. Assigned for Decomission. (original 1701)

The Search for Spock: Stolen then destroyed. (original 1701)

The Voyage Home: Not the Enterprise, but ended up crashed in San Francisco bay. Presumably scrapped. (stolen Klingon ship)

The Undiscovered Country: Shot up all to hell by a cloaked bird of prey. Decomissioned. (1701 A)

Generations: Badly damaged by the Nexus. Was repaired. (1701 B), Destroyed. (1701 D)

First Contact: Partially assimilated by the Borg. Was repaired. (1701 E)

Insurrection: Shot up all to hell by the Son'a, lost its warp core. Was repaired. (1701 E)

Nemesis: Shot up all to hell, then physically collided with the Scimitar. Was repaired. (1701 E)

Star Trek 09: Shot up all to hell by the Nereda. Was repaired. (New 1701)

Into Darkness: Shot up all to hell by the USS Vengeance. Was repaired. (New 1701)

Beyond: Destroyed. (New 1701)

Original Kirk and Picard both lost one. It's only fair New Kirk get the same treatment.

How many Millennium Falcons have Han Solo, Lando Calrissian, or Rey lost? ;)

I really liked the way it was destroyed in Search for Spock.

I suppose there was some foreshadowing going in the first part of Beyond when Kirk was talking about the capabilities of the Enterprise but made the distinction between that and the crew suggesting that the crew is what made the Enterprise and not the ship. I guess they had to illustrate that by demolishing the Enterprise. It still seems to happen far too much.

Well, I'm not sure it survived the Borg attack in First Contact.

Looks more like a shuttlecraft to me.

What I liked

was the way the film opened through Kirk narrating aboot the first three years

then it became a standard action film. Tired of

of rogue Starfleet villain

.

I saw it again yesterday. It really is a great Trek movie! And better still, the theater was almost full. :)

I noticed a couple of other little things the second time around that nobody would have gotten the first time:

Like when Krall first sees the Franklin flying through space he says "Nice to see you again, old friend". At first I assumed he was talking about Kirk but he's actually talking about the ship, since it used to be his (and at this point it hadn't been revealed just who he was yet.)

I want to see it again just to catch things that I didn't see the first time. This is the first time I've wanted to see one of the reboot movies more than once.

I liked it. A very good rebound from the truly awful Into Darkness.

It's a simple story bolstered by a cast that compliments each other extremely well.

It's not a great movie, but it's a good Star Trek movie. And that's good enough for me.

I even got what message they were trying to convey a bit better the 2nd time around.

I think the first time I saw this I was still a bit in shock because I expected it to be a lot more like the last 2 J.J. deals and it wasn't.

Even when "Krall" dies at the end and his body is consumed but the starfleet insignia / com badge is all that remains. It's like the era of war and nonsense that he represents finally also died while the spirit of Trek continues. That's pretty deep, man. :D

It'd still be hard to rate the Trek movies in order, but I think I can safely say that Wrath of Khan is still my #1 and Nemesis is still at the bottom.

Beyond would for sure fall in the upper half of things.

Not good news if you're looking for a fourth film.

http://www.forbes.co...e/#606f69d525ce

There will be a 4th film. They've already signed Chris Hemsworth to reprise his role of George Kirk.

There has been too many big time film releases these past few weeks. Too many films to see, so some films get missed.

VOD and downloads and blu-ray. There's a lot of money still to be made. If the next television show takes off, who knows?

I'm just happy the new cast has another decent Trek movie under their belts. They are very good with the characters.

Poor O'Brien. I liked that he got a lot more story time on DS9.

HAHAHAHAH!!!!

I always thought he and Keiko had terrible on screen chemistry. Like she was almost always a total bitch and never wanted to kiss the dude or anything. O'Brien is one of my favorites and Eaglemoon's right he's way way better on DS9 (TNG's "The Wounded" was really good though).

Agreed. O'brien was never intended to be any more than a random fill-in with TNG, but fans found themselves drawn by his seemingly genuine every-man personality, a credit to Colm Meaney's performance. By the third season, it became apparent that the writers had a character they could develop further, and he became a shoe in to move up to a lead role with DS9.

And you're right "The Wounded" is one of my favorite episodes. It's bold in its willingness to put that much workload on a (to that point) minor character, and brings in one of the most prolific character actors that Star Trek has had as a guest star, with Bob Gunton... seriously, that guy has been in everything, yet few ever remember his name.

Interesting fact, even though he was featured in many episodes through the first three seasons, O'Brien's first name isn't revealed until the fourth season of TNG. Until that point, scripts referred to him as Aloysius O'Brien.

I didn't know that! I always knew he was O'Brien but I must've seen a later episode where they mentioned his name and then an earlier one afterwards.

Also cool about The Wounded: We learn that they also call Cardies SPOONHEADS. And Gul Macet / Dukat was so good in it they gave him his own show.
