The Steven Wilson Thread

Recommended Posts

This is sweet news. Saw the news on his FB page this morning. Busy guy. Always on the road. He he's not making that much money touring either. Road warrior he is.

Currently working on the new Blackfield.

Regardless of how you feel about Blackfield V, the cover art for it looks great.

Amazing interview Tony R published on the post #46.

He's very down to Earth and compromised with his work. I love musicians who love what they do and encourage others to do the same.

I always appreciate the physical albums. The art on the cover, all the booklet as well. Reading lyrics, seeing pictures, touching the CD copy.

Most of music I know comes from listening on streaming to purchase albums later.

The interview also reminded me of these videos due their connection with some kind of art, movies and feelings. Not only music. It's interesting to think of Music as lot of things together making sense for an artistic appeal.

The Routine video is heartbreaking. I mean, they all are, but that one . . . I can barely watch it.

Haha funny you should mention that... here's how he 'introduces' Routine at the show...

Got my tickets for Orlando and St. Pete (Can't complete the trilogy with Ft. Lauderdale on Sunday though...)

New: John Wesley will be the opening act in Orlando! Will we get a sort of a mini-psuedo PT reunion??

We're talking about how heartbreaking the Routine video is, imagine how I felt the first time I saw it on the first American leg of the H.C.E. Tour...I had heard about it from previous concert reports but I wasn't prepared for what I saw and even the second show I saw that leg I still couldn't believe it. That was of course before SW made the decision to release it online.

Got my Fort Lauderdale tickets!!!!

YEEEEESSSS!!!!

I am so thrilled about this show. Tiny venue. Amazing music. A night of Steven Wilson.

My wife and I are super pumped. We have not seen Steven since The Incident Tour in 2009 (at the Filmore in Miami Beach). So looking forward to this.

If it's of any interest to anyone here, the full NYC show from early March of this year is on YouTube. ICYMI, this was the now legendary show where SW headed into the with a severe virus to the point where lost his voice and could only sing 4 1/2 songs (no pun intended) that night (the ones within his natural speaking voice) leaving almost the rest of the vocal duties to Ninet Tayeb and for two songs to Dave Kilminster. The entire audience (myself included as I was at this show) was definitely wowed by how unbelievable of a performance Ninet gave given the circumstances. Dave's a pretty good vocalist, as well believe it or not.

Harmony Korine and Lazarus were dropped and replaced with Sectarian for this show only (and it hasn't been played live since) so I'm sharing the performance of it here in its current form w/his current band lineup.

SW's appearing on the 40th Anniversary Rush 2112 release, covering Twilight Zone. Has he finally come out of the Rush-fan closet?

http://www.rush.com/2112-40th/

He never was in the closet. He's explicitly said he's liked Rush several times. He said he'd love to work on some remixes for them. And Alex Lifeson appeared on his album

He's even mentioned his favorite Rush albums and songs several times. He did a write-up for Classic Rock's Clockwork Angels "Fanpack" issue on Hemispheres, said his favorite Rush song was The Camera Eye on an issue of Prog magazine, and on a Facebook livestream Q&A mentioned Moving Pictures and Signals as two of his other favorite Rush albums besides Hemispheres.

In 2007, around the time "Fear of a Blank Planet" was released he stated in an audio interview that his musical DNA is made up of 4 bands: Pink Floyd, King Crimson, RUSH, and Tangerine Dream.

Yeah, forgot about Lifeson playing on the PT song. I haven't seen or read a lot of his interviews so I guess I'm a bit out of the loop. Most of the influences I've read/heard him rattle off were more on the alt, electronic, and classic pre-Rush prog side.
