Personalizing Instruments

Recommended Posts

Anybody on here have some personalized instruments? Like strictly aesthetic upgrades that make your instrument feel like "yours". Post 'em if you got 'em, I'm thinking about doing something to my bass, but not sure on what would look tacky, and what would look sweet.

Let's see your signatures, people!

Not sure if this applies, but I've got a 1980s Laney Pro Tube Lead 100 watt head - I took the old black tolex off and recovered it red ...

I got the original tolex to come off in one piece and used that as a template

I'm cursed with a Peavey Milestone IV, great sounding bass for the price, don't get me wrong. But I can't find replacement pickguards for it to save my damn life, any suggestions on what I can do to it?

yes have one made.

Even though its easy to find pick guards for strats I always take in the original pick guard and have one made using the original as the template.

Aftermarket pick-guards are always hit and miss if they actually fit and for your situation might just be hard to find full stop.

Someone likes tort. :). They look great. You ever have any trouble with the gold hardware tarnishing?

on the gold tarnishing. oddly enough.

I spend a bunch of cash on a PRS P24 limited (2015) and the gold hardware starts to ware off almost starting from day one.

side note. I have three PRS guitars an 89, a 91 and a 2015. the 89 and the 91 feel like very very different guitars from the 2015.

On the fenders I am using wilkson VSVG bridges and Gotoh tuners and whatever I could find for knobs and not a bit of the gold is wearing off. Obviously though not for the black strat all the hardware minus the silver knobs is stock from fender. I mean fender shipped it from the factory with a floyd etc

I've had several PRS guitars myself and my favorite was an older Custom 22 that had the flip/flop color changing finish with the wide fat neck. (Howard Leese now owns that one) After they changed the neck profiles I didn't care as much for them.

Very nice! And yeah, the black with the tortise pickguard is killer.

What's the bridge pickup on the first one?

first one? the dark lake placid blue?

dimarzio super distortion. no idea whats in the mid and neck, whatever was in there when i bought it is still there

Sherwood green is a suhr aldrich in the bridge and Klein S-5 in the neck and mid. there really is NOTHING original left in that guitar but the wood

black

69 Strat Single-Coil neck and mid / Seymour Duncan TB-1b in the bridge <-- fav pickup even though its the lowest output of my strats

Back when I worked with countertop materials, I made some pickguards for my instruments.
