AlienInvasion and BassMasterGeneral, welcome to the forum

. . . and Happy Birthday 2112 ... 1976 was an incredible year for music - maybe the best ever - and 2112 is a huge part of that ..

what a great day to release another album when the previous one did so badly.

I can only imagine the pressure that these guys were under on this day 40 years ago. You think you've just created the most incredible rock album ever and are waiting patiently for confirmation from the rest of the world. Then again, the same thoughts were there when Caress of Steel was released, so why should this new 2112 album be any different. Perhaps it's time to start thinking about what to do once this rock star thing is finished.

One of the reasons I love this album so much is the fact that's it's exactly what the record company told them NOT to do.

"hey guys last time you released a 15+ minute song, nobody liked it, don't do it again"

*does it anyway and creates one of the greatest and most important Prog Rock albums of all time*

Instead of 2112 they should have named it 'F U!'...and that doesn't stand for Florida University. Edited by 2112FirstStreet

I love side one the best because it's just so freaking awesome. I am with BassMasterGeneral that I love it for WHY they wrote as much as what they wrote. It's getting played today as soon as I get a chance. I am working all day, so tonight!

It's amazing that it's been 40 years since this album came out. Still sounds as awesome today as it did back then.

July 4th, 1976 - the bicentennial anniversary here in the USA

I remember this guy in our neighborhood painted his entire house red, white and blue ( this was back when people actually worked on their own houses )

Anyways, as a kid, I thought this was incredible - I couldn't get enough of hopping on my bike and going by this house

There was an uproar though - a bunch of people felt it was tacky, and apparently lowered the standards of the neighborhood - which was something I could not understand

Thankfully, I still don't understand it

I wouldn't hear RUSH until about a year later, and I wouldn't grasp the full meaning behind 2112 for a few years . . .

Long live the individual and the creative spirit

Great responses all, and thanks ChrisUK for that link.

Here's one with the "2112" commemorative spread they did in March's MOJO mag (the one with Bowie on the cover):
