Except Cupcake is a recently adopted American term...they were always called fairy cakes when I was younger.

Aaaah yeah I think I remember this...

 

My family is south African mostly. South Africa was far more in touch with American terms and phrases and names and media. So I often say the wrong thing haha!

 

I am not massively British, sad to say ol' chum!
