Would anyone be interested in playing a little NASCAR Pick'em game?

Here are the rules:

  • Every week, for the first 26 weeks, you will pick one driver.
  • If you fail to make a pick before the Green Flag drops, you will be given the top-qualifying driver that is still available on your roster automatically.
  • Through the first 26 weeks, you can never pick the same driver twice.
  • You will be rewarded the same number of points as the driver receives in the race. (based on NASCAR scoring)
  • After 26 weeks, players ranked in the lower half of the contest will be eliminated. The upper half will advance to the 'chase', where the points will be reset. (max 8 players)
  • The regular season leader will begin the chase with 40 points, the 2nd place competitor will start with 35, and each position back will receive 5 fewer points to start the postseason.
  • In the Chase, the driver roster will reset, so you can use any driver one more time.
  • Top score after the last ten races wins the championship.

If there's any interest in this, I will set it up and keep score. Let me know if you want to play!

Count me in! Do I get a charter?

I am surprised you're using the Chase format...though not the even more bastardized format of the last couple of years.

You are hereby chartered.

And really, if we don't get at least 8 people to play, I saw we ditch the chase...

Still only have 2? We doing this over PM?

I'm in and Mr. Blues wants to do it also, so that would be four to start with, anyway! (Although I must make my one and only protest here that your stated format practically forces me into having to choose Kyle Busch one week- ieeeeee! :banghead: )

Awesome finish!

Been better if Truex won. If Kenseth would have just stayed on the bottom instead of trying to block, he'd have probably finished 2nd or 3rd or maybe even held on to win instead of finishing 13th. Dingus.

I've got no favorite driver. I rarely watch NASCAR, though I have a friend that bitches and whines about the rule changes all the time. I started to go to the Coca Cola 600 one time, but I didn't.

Why is everyone saying that it would have been better if Truex had won?

Because we all like an underdog story. Truex is sort of a NASCAR journeyman, who's had a lot of career/personal hardship, and has finally found chemistry with a little single car team out of Colorado. They're outperforming organizations with millions more dollars worth of resources. Classy guy, grassroots organization, doing things the old fashioned way... nothing not to like.

But either way, it was a good solid race to the checkered flag. And the race didn't end with meddling from the sanctioning body. So I'm satisfied.

Not a spectacular start for anyone. If you want to get in for week 2, we can still take more entries. Sure you missed week 1, but with the bad performances here, you won't be very far behind.

Blaney was running top ten most of the day, but kind of got stuck back on the outside later on. Was hoping for better, he ran better than where he finished.

Ugh bleh grr...

This might be my last year as a NASCAR fan.

Anything in particular?

Oh, I think I get it. It's because Danica will be driving Fords in 2017, right?

With Stewart Haas going to Ford, that leaves Hendrick and RCR as my only options. I've never cared for Rick Hendrick, and I'm sad to say that Richard Childress seems more interested in despotism than racing these days.

While I still like Jr and Ryan Newman quote a lot, I'm feeling like a man without a team to root for.

I hope you meant RC is more interested in nepotism. It would suck if he was a Trump supporter. ;)

I guess I've never been one whose interests are more defined by manufacturers rather than drivers. I know you have quite a bit of respect for Keselowski; you could go for him. Or is the fact that he's a teammate of Joey's a disqualifier?

Personally, I'm starting over since the Reed Sorenson thing isn't happening, and rooting for Chase Elliott (look for his career never to recover). His commercial with Jr for NAPA last year (gnomes are magic! you know you've made it when you got your own dipstick) is my favorite commercial ever....

Nepotism, damn it.

But yeah, I totally respect RC, but his track record of drivers lately is a little concerning. Austin is a fine driver, but likely wouldn't be there if not for the fact that he's RC'a grandson. Ty's the same story, but less talented. Paul Menard is a capable, smart driver; but his biggest asset is his family sponsor. Brendan Gaughan, Brian Scott... Same story. Lately it's been less like Richard Childress Racing, and more like rich children racing.

I do like Keselowski, and I'm still going to like Harvick, and I still like Martin Truex... But team Chevy is still very important to me. I always want my favorite driver in a GM.

Maybe Regan Smith. Perhaps Tommy Baldwin Racing can take the Furniture Row path... you know, without the switch to Toyota. They're a classic underdog team, operating with true passion for racing. I'd love to see them have a breakthrough season.
