The Analog Cub
The purpose of this thread is to have a discussion of sorts for each week focusing on a year. So for this week (or until discussion for the current year dies out, who knows, might've been a horrible year) we can talk about stuff released in 1965 that we love. Go all the way to the present! The reason I'm starting with 1965 is for historical reasons. Beatlemania, new psychedelic bands were around the corner, etc. HERE WE GO Edited February 10, 2016 by BowlCity

Lorraine
So, it's 1965? I was 11 and hadn't really gotten much into music other than The Beatles. Isn't that when A Hard Day's Night came out? Simon and Garfunkel too were getting big.
The Analog Cub
Switched from '70 to '65.WHAT?!?!?! SORRY I didn't want to exclude greatness that came from before the 70's. Some people love stuff like the Stones, the Beatles, old Zeppelin or Floyd, all sorts of stuff.
The Analog Cub
Am I caught in a TRF time warp here? Had I gone a year earlier you could've fawned over Downtown by Petula Clark again :P

Lorraine
I'm still confused. Are we sticking with one year at a time, or just posting years at random?
The Analog Cub
I'm still confused. Are we sticking with one year at a time, or just posting years at random? One year at a time. The idea is we spent some time (up to a week unless people get bored early) discussing music from that year, then we move onto the next. So at the latest, next Tuesday will be 1966. MS101 decided to post 1973 for whatever reason. Edited February 10, 2016 by BowlCity
catherine
I was under the impression just one year at a time which is ATM 1965, the year before I was born actually. Off the top of my head I don't know what was released that year.

Union 5-3992
BB King's Live at the Regal came out in 1965. That one inspired Eric Clapton and a few other noteworthy guitar players.
catherine
Lifted this from Ultimate Classic Rock: "Nineteen sixty-five was one of the most dynamic and groundbreaking years in rock music history. The Beatles, Rolling Stones, the Who and the Yardbirds continued their assault on the U.S. with a series of significant releases and highly touted tours. The Grateful Dead, the Doors and Pink Floyd all played their first shows together. And Bob Dylan set down the acoustic guitar and began one of the most celebrated periods of his career. All those moments and many more make up our list of the 50 most important events to happen in rock music in the year 1965." http://ultimateclass...m/1965-in-rock/ Edited February 10, 2016 by catherine
