Rank the KING'S X discography for me please

Recommended Posts

I'm bit baffled by the pro(g) label for this band by ssome i in no way would consider them one.

ugh......prog is such a broad label for people now, lol

Mick

Earlier stuff definitely had prog elements. I'd still consider them more a plain rock (or later on hard rock) band than anything else.

Me too. But like i said people's view on prog has become so broad these days it's tough to call.

Mick

Yeah, I'm not well versed in "prog", but I can definitely see some prog elements in the first handful of King's X albums. Later albums are more straight forward with a nice groove. As long as they bring the heavy with the great harmonies/melodies...I'm there either way.

I find the prog elements ended with Dogman. But prior to that, if Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures are referred to as prog, then those first four albums are as well.

I like how they evolved though! They have a prog spirit though, but more in the vein of Rush or Kansas than early Genesis or King Crimson.

King's X Dogman is like Rush's Counterparts...it's got the grunge influence (both came out 93-94). Whether that's a good or bad thing depends on the listener It kind of turned me off at the time.

I listened to Mr. Bulbous. ehhh....uh.......no. Pretty bland.

i think that's as far as i go with this band.

Mick

Yeah, I can see people polarized by that album. Anything forward you probably wouldn't care for.

Thanks for the great replies so far folks. Keep 'em coming if moved to contribute.

I'm more than happy to talk King's X, so I'm glad to see this thread.

By the way, all 3 members have multiple solo albums, so anyone that may want to dig deeper...look for Dug Pinnick (poundhound), Ty Tabor, or Jerry Gaskill titles. I'm a little torn about all the solo stuff...there hasn't been a new King's X album since 2008. Health issues were certainly a factor also.

Yea. they kinda dropped the Immediately graspable melodies. Which is what i thought was their best quality.

So yea i'm happy with what i have.

Are me and Mick once again the only ones who have the right idea about an album, notably, Out Of The Silent Planet?

King's X's first three albums are on par with my four favourite Rush albums, all of Kansas seventies run and Lacuna Coil, Nightwish, Within Temptation, Alter Bridge...basically... ON THE HIGH LEVEL OF MY BESTIES LIST!!

King's X opened for AC/DC on their FHL tour... Back then we knew dUg and Jerry so we left without ever seeing AC/DC and hung out with the guys on their bus (Chicago).

AC/DC might be a really great band, I just haven't bothered digging deeper as I don't like any of the hits.
