micgtr71
I was 13 in 1984... The synth era is very much part of me. If the other 3 albums were their whole catalogue, I would probably only like them as a band.
LuigisMansion44
The three v. three makes this difficult. Add Signals to the synth era and it gets my vote, but p/g and HYF have too many issues whereas VT and S&A are both all around solid albums. CA and PoW are nearly equally excellent. I really do NOT like the synth era after the enemy within... it just started to replace the guitar which bother's me greatly... so i choose modern RUSH over synth... :syrinx:
goose
era-wise, it's a tie, I think, for me. Solid: P/G, VT Enjoyable, with meh moments: PoW, S&A Meh, with good moments: HYF, CA
greg2112
Synth era., absolutely no contest. Songwriting, production, lyrics, all better.
Mosher
Synth era is definitely the best of the two, HOWEVER, Clockwork Angels is the best of all of these albums. In my mind it was the perfect cap if there has to be one (and there has to be one, it was always going to end. Still hope for one more though.) LedRush
Modern era, easily. Even with S&A, you have a masterpiece and a flawed powerhouse against a team of dated and relatively weak albums. I have learned to love the synth era, but it is too dated and tame to stack up against other Rush eras for me.
chemistry1973
If you add Signals to the Synth era then that era is their best era hands down.

x1yyz
Seeing as HYF is my least favourite Rush album and CA is tied for my fave, I chose the modern era. Edited September 15, 2016 by x1yyz
Mystic Slipperman
Much as I love S&A and Clockwork.. No Contest - the writing during the P/G, Power Windows, and HYF period is fantastic. Yes, I'm including Tai Shan in that. I don't care what the band says.
tontonfranck
A few days ago I gave a new try to "Power windows" and "Hold your fire" and even if I always can find nice things they are a bit painful to listen.Grace is an album I enjoy though. So I have to choose the modern era

DistantEarlySignals
Love both, but thanks to all of Snakes and the song Freeze, I'm going to go with modern
Wayne
The Modern Era Snakes, a solid effort under the tutelage of a new producer sandwiched between two barnstormer's. I appreciate the synth era more now than perhaps back in the day.Top-notch songwriting and more chops on display than 99.9% of the competition. While sounding totally unlike anybody else. JohnnyBlaze
I guess I'll rank them too since all the cool kids seem to be doing it.. 1. HYF2. P/G - these top two are VERY close3. PoW4. S&A's - these two are very close as well.5. CA6. VTThis is a Rush message board---there are no cool kids. :hail: Might as well give my rankings in your 1 year old post... 1. PoW2. GUP3. HYF4. CA5. VT6. S&A The synth era doesn't have any songs I dislike. Sure, there are some songs that I think are just ok but, as I said, there's nothing I dislike. The modern era has plenty that I dislike, especially on Snakes. The vocals are much better too in synth era. And, as an afterthought, the synth era is lyrically better too (overall).
