A bit close for me, pit them against the Presto-T4E stuff and then Modern would win every time

I wasn't sure what to put because if I put Presto - Clockwork Angels then the synth era would've been way outnumbered.

The synth era gets my vote. Big time.

To my ears, S & A is a darn good album and the best of the modern era work (best recording quality by far when compared to the original VT or CA - not by far, just slightly better, when compared to the remixed VT, best lyrics, best music) and even so it only match's up against Grace Under Pressure which is the weakest of the 3 synth era albums. Put it up against Power Windows or HYF and its a mismatch. Either one of those 2 albums is significantly better than it.

VT & CA? Even the remixed version of VT and / or CA don't come close to the wonderful Grace Under Pressure - much less Power Windows & HYF. Those 2 albums have some of Neil's best lyrics of all, fine mixing and great music that goes perfectly with the lyrics.

Keep in mind I like S & A - a lot. Its their best work since Counterparts (IMO) - perhaps even since Presto!!! CA has its moments and the remixed VT is somewhat tolerable. This is not totally a slam of the modern era (although it is the weakest of all their work) - its a testament to the strength of the synth era.

To my ears its not a match up. More like a mismatch.

The three v. three makes this difficult. Add Signals to the synth era and it gets my vote, but p/g and HYF have too many issues whereas VT and S&A are both all around solid albums. CA and PoW are nearly equally excellent.

From the modern era I like SA's and some of CA's but the synth era blows it out of the water. They could still write great melodies back then and the songs are just better. So synth era gets my vote.

Around T4E Rush just completely forgot what a good melody is

sorry.......it's true.

It IS true. The majority of the songs they've put out in the modern era sound too pieced-together.

Well I think part of the problem was when Neil moved to LA. He wasn't around to work with them at all, and then the digital age came around. Too easy to piece parts together on the home computer.

Hmmmm synth era very synthie yet interesting. Modern era very modern yet interesting. I have no choice but to group these latter 2 with the prog era which is AWESOME!! :finbar:
