Since 2000 then?

Missing the 2000 cut off but still newish:

Lacuna Coil

Nightwish

Within Temptation

Lacuna Coil: 1994 (officially released demo tracks under different name on a metal compilation)

Within Temptation: 1995

Nightwish: 1996

Yeah, but I was going by when their first releases came out. All three are late 90s so they just miss the 2000 cut off. I'm not bothered by what Lacuna Coil released before they called themselves Lacuna Coil.

I put Stone Sour on my list even though the first formed in 1992. But they never released anything until 2002 since Corey Taylor left them to join Slipknot. So, I consider them a 2000s band.

True, a bit like Rush (they formed in 69?).

Magenta

Geddy Lee solo (he made his album 2000, so it counts! :P)

But Geddy has been around since the 70's, he's hardly a new act. I didn't choose Steven Wilson for a similar reason

Screw it, I take him anyway.

Is this really it? There has to be more!

And I mostly listen to bands/artists from the 70s and 80s.

Aaah, yeah that's fair enough! I listen to mainly old stuff now as well, but I have found a fair few modern bands that stick with me like the oldies!

That's the big thing, whether it's a new or old band is if they stick with you. There's plenty of bands where i've liked what i've heard but in the end they don't mange to work themselves into the regular listening rotation. It's harder for a new band to work it's way in when i've already got so much great older stuff to listen to.

Exactly!

I despise it when people claim they had better music in their generation.

Some of the worst music I have ever heard came from the seventies. Some of it is even raved about on this site!

Each to their own...don't you tell me your taste is better! It's already too obvious one would think that of themselves.

2000 and up you say?

Dawes

Baroness

Mastodon

Ghost BC

Best Coast

Arcade Fire

Alicia Keys - A rare pop music act whose music I don't mind listening to.

Black Keys

solo Jack White/Dead Weather/Raconteurs

The Strypes

The Killers - Their last album was a huge letdown and Day And Age was hit or miss, though.

Tame Impala

I'm considering getting into Gaslight Anthem soon as well.

Baroness ans mastodon getting a lotta love up in here. They should they are both awesome.

For fans of these two bands, the op mentioned uncle acid & the deadbeats. I feel this band would apoeal to many as well.

I like Uncle Acid's Blood Lust most. Mind Control was real solid but The Night Creeper kinda lost me. There were a few good tracks but it felt too samey for me. Maybe I need to hear it more. But otherwise I'd love to see them live one day, I bet it'd be fun.

I also heard that if you buy a t-shirt from them, they sometimes send letters or paper covered in red paint with it.

In no particular order...

Isis/Old Man Gloom/Sumac/Mamiffer (grouped together because Aaron Turner is involved in all of these)

Coheed and Cambria

Mastodon

Baroness

Dir En Grey (guilty pleasure of mine cause one, I find a lot of music from the "mainstream" Japanese music scene either gimmicky or ad nauseam)

Boris/Mono/Endon/Envy (my Big 4 of indie/underground Japanese bands)

Ghost

Pelican

Russian Circles

Intronaut

Since 2000 then?

Missing the 2000 cut off but still newish:

Lacuna Coil

Nightwish

Within Temptation

Lacuna Coil: 1994 (officially released demo tracks under different name on a metal compilation)

Within Temptation: 1995

Nightwish: 1996

Yeah, but I was going by when their first releases came out. All three are late 90s so they just miss the 2000 cut off.

I put Stone Sour on my list even though the first formed in 1992. But they never released anything until 2002 since Corey Taylor left them to join Slipknot. So, I consider them a 2000s band.

True, a bit like Rush (they formed in 69?).

September 1968, as a matter of fact. ;)

Of course! I wouldn't remember, it was another 32 years before I busted out ;)
