I thought this thread was about how you thought Rush was done, and therefore you would retire yourself from this board

I feel there wasn't  a need for all these 2 nd legs and clockwork angels tour could have been better vocally without  a second leg and  a much unNecessary  time machine tour.. So, this lastest r40 dvd, I really wanted to like. I didn't. that horrible straining singing is atrosich...Just cant stand to hear it. Guy sounds like hes recovering from a stroke.. So, the fist leg of snakes and beyond a lighted stage is my final send off. I will always think of r30 as a great tour were Geddy still sounded reasonable. But I will always cherish my past tour bootlegs too..R.I.P. RUSH.. The only thing new I will buy from them unless its old shows from 1976-1997.. that's it...
Sounds a little over the top drama. Seeing R40 in Vancouver and Seattle, I thought RUSH was at the top of their game.  I've seen them 16 times since the Hemispheres tour, so I do have decades of reference.

Guy sounds like hes recovering from a stroke..

I think that we as Rush fans fail to realize how lucky we are and sometimes resort to overly dramatic descriptions such as this.  No Geddy does not sound like he is recovering from a stroke.

Do you want to hear how lucky we are?  Listen to Axl Rose, Vince Neil, David Lee Roth, and tons after tons of 70's and 80's rockers still trying to sound decent but failing nowadays.  Geddy may strain, and have a more deeper timbre to his voice now, but to me R40 is a testament to how good he still sounds

Honestly, I listen to Geddy and still enjoy hearing him sing.  It does not sound horrible to me at all.  And I am not saying that in a blind fanboy type of way - if he sounded bad I would have 0 issues in saying that.  But I just really 100% honestly do not get how people can bring such overly dramatic descriptions such as relating Geddy to a stroke victim to describe his singing the past few years

You should have a forum area just for the special people and neurotics.

Then again, the rest of the forum might be a bit empty...

When it came to the early 70s, he stopped being able to sing THAT high circa 1980. By the time the 80s rolled along, he was singing Temples way differently than he did in 1976.

It could be worse, he could sound like Ian Astbury, great studio singer but could never cut it live.

I do think you have to be a Rush fan to accept Geddy's voice these days I'm afraid. Rush fans are used to it; have a certain affection for it. Stepping back and listening more objectively, he yelps and howls through their classic tunes like a wounded labrador.
