iPad advice

So, I just got an iPad Air2 and am obsessed!

I'm going to be using it as my main computer for a little while. My laptop shit the bed a couple of weeks ago, and I am DONE with Microsoft. I can't quite afford a Mac right now, maybe after Christmas. I've got questions for Apple geeks here.

Security. I know one of the upsides of Apple is that they're immune to a lot of crap that PC users have to watch for, but what do I need to consider when putting personal data out there? Not like I do a ton of online financial transactions - mostly paying bills through my bank website - but do I need to install extra security software? I can do most of the online banking from my work computer if I have to; their network is super locked down and firewalled to the nth degree.

I'm mainly using the iPad at home, and it's connected via my home network. I do have it set up with my wireless carrier, though, I don't plan to connect through them often. Anything I need to watch out for? I do know better than to use most public wifi spots for sensitive personal info.

I haven't had any issues I'm aware of, but not an expert. I have no security features installed on my phone or iPad mini.

I have had a issue from using my cc on an app. I believe it was starbucks. Nothing happened but my card co sent me a new one.

The reason Windows is open to viruses is because of a few factors; it is the larger portion of the personal computer market and is largely backwards compatible across older hardware. Less so after the move to 64 bit but still there are a lot of variables involved due to the wide variety of hardware Window OS can be installed on where Macs are pretty much a closed system as well as aggressively update OS versions and gradually eliminate older hardware. That makes it tougher for hackers to find vulnerabilities. Coupled with MS early domination of the market means that more damage can be done by virtue of there being more PC users in general. Although the Mac user base has been growing (since the advent of the iPhone, a market they lead) they still only take up less than a third of the personal computer market last I saw.

Since I work in game and video production Macs are a regular course of business for me and I have several. I do also have a background in building PCs from my career in games, but these days I am 95% Mac, the exception being game development specific PCs. At my home studio I've done away with Windows altogether. The exception now being my Xbox One which now has Win10 components.

I loathe both Microsoft and Apple.

Subtle "I'm Gay for Google" post.

Can you actually be gay for an inanimate object?

Absolutely.

I would be interested to know how you know that.
