toymaker
My stuff tends to be pretty simple, too. Jeremy is much more proggy than me. I don't know if I've ever written anything that can be defined as "prog" - I have some things that have heavy parts and quiet parts, but nothing tricksy with timing. I can play drums, bass, and guitar, but none of them beyond average. I play pretty basic beats and fills on a little Yamaha YDD-60 that I can play like a real kit if I hunch my shoulders together and play very carefully. I've also been known to use the same drum track for several different songs . . . What's cool about home recording is that you can do take after take after take after take until you're reasonably satisfied . . . and it really costs nothing but time.
Prime Mover and Shaker
I still like to "keep it real", though... or try to. I'm much more on the Rush side of things than Dream Theater, in that I prefer melody over wankery. But I do really like odd time signatures! ;)

I record a lot of takes when I'm working on guitar solos. Most of the time I don't even listen back to them unless something sounded/felt interesting.
Prime Mover and Shaker
By the way, I meant to say: cool job. I couldn't listen to it at work, but I checked it out when I got home! Do you ever try to collaborate on original stuff? Someone sends a bass riff or two? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6wyCjRCLts&sns=em I still am quite fond of how this one turned out. :)

I'm a self taught producer/engineer, and this is my most recent accomplishment with a home recording setup: http://www.therushfo...ween-the-lines/ It all takes "time". John and Jeremy have seen my progression first hand over the past 6-7 years as I started working with them and Mike Vieira on various projects. Although I've been active in various bands/projects for the better part of the last 22 years, it's really only in the past 10 that I decided to go full digital and start taking the craft more seriously. Honestly part of my motivation has been from hearing horrible mixes being produced by paid engineers on commercial works. I thought "I can do better" and went out to prove it. It's really about having the ears for production, then learning the digital tools to get things sounding the way you hear them. Some extra coin dropped on some improved listening gear and plugins has helped a lot too. Can't dismiss having appropriate playback equipment. stoopid
My latest musical project. Prime Mover & Shaker and stoopid contributed bass tracks, and stoopid mixed and mastered the thing. http://youtu.be/26R9qPqsGQ4 What impressed me is that you did so much programming and writing to get this to sound so fluid. I know how much time it takes. A LOT. You're a great guitarist/muician, but I think your stubbornness and perseverance are your greatest gifts. True story - I thought this composition was a cover (someone else's mashup), and it wasn't until the entire thing was done and I sent the last mix to John that I thought to ask about it - at which time he informed me it was entirely his idea and creation. My jaw dropped. lol Edited November 17, 2015 by stoopid

It's been some years I haven't heard real good music from less known people. Will we have more songs/ videos in the future?
