Rediscovered this gem this past week!

Their attitude in the studio must have been "sometimes people like crap".

Slate away!

My name's Mick and um.......yea i enjoy this album now. No stop Laughing......right now. The gates have opened.

This is basically a collection of Rush oddities. Taken like that....this album has weird beauty to it.

It's silly.......absoloultly stupid in spots but owns it.

I sit astounded.

I told you! It took me a while to get it. But it hit me when I was listening to Between Sun And Moon that Rush can be goofballs!

It worked for me on T4E from day one! So why not CP? Some excellent songs everywhere on this!

Stick It Out might even be less offensive to my ears.

Animate: good studio cut, well-performed on the R40 tour, dreadful in concert on previous tours

Stick it Out: musically, I'm fine with it, not a fan of the Geddy Tabernacle Choir

Cut to the Chase: PLAY IT LIVE ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nobody's Hero: does nothing for me, their other recent "softer" songs are much better

Between Sun and Moon: became okay after seeing it live

Alien Shore: some of my favorite Geddy bass work, cool tune

The Speed of Love: no

Double Agent: I want to like it, but..... meh

Leave That Thing Alone: decent, studio cut is far inferior to live versions

Cold Fire: I like it

Everyday Glory: I like it

Animate- 8/10 WHAT A WEIRD SONG! Love it.

Stick It Out- 1/10 I picked out some OK instrumentation. Vocals make me sick.

Cut To The Chase- 6/10 Some love it. I like it.

Nobody's Hero- 8/10 Some...rather direct lyrics...great song! At this point I must say I am loving the lyrical approach on this album. Really refreshing.

Between Sun And Moon- 7/10 A great chorus, really reminds me if sixties surf pop! The song itself? Not quite top shelf

Alien Shore- 9/10 LOVE THIS SONG! Great lyrics

The Speed Of Love- 9/10 Whimsical, delicate, and some really frank lyrics. Trippy, chilled chorus, and I love the bridge.

Leave That Thing Alone- 8/10 Nice!

Cold Fire- 10/10 Normally a song like this would be my favourite but...

EVERYDAY GLORY- 10/10 I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH! The guitar tone is just too sexilicious to describe and everything is just on point.

Animate-10/10. Rules in the Studio. Drags live though. but we are talking studio so....it rules.

Stick it Out-8/10. It's fun as hell. I groove to it.

Cut to the Chase-10/10. Talk about Groove This Has it in spades. Never performed live.......that's a crime

Nobody's Hero- 6/10. meh. I appreciate the Lyrics. but it Kinda drags on for me.

Between Sun and Moon-7/10Quirky. Don't know what the hell Neil wrote but........i love his drums on this track.

Alien Shore- 10/10. Yea man!!!!!! it works. Love the oddball lyrics here too. Alex rock's here

Speed of Love-0/10. well.........some things never change

Double Agent-9/10. What were they smoking? and i want some. NERDS!!!!!!! I love how out there this is.

Leave That Thing Alone-10/10. Perfect instrumental. Always loved it.

Cold Fire-10/10. Great pop/rock tune. Catchy hooks. one of Al's most overlooked solos.

Everyday Glory-10/10 I hear U2 in the opening riff. One of Rush's best closers. Tuneful. Beauty really.

I used a GPA kind of scale. That is, 4 points.

0=fail, 1= below average, 2=average, 3=above average, 4=superior.

I like Counterparts but the score was much lower than I expected: 2.27. Here's the break down...

0 points: 1 song

1 point: 1 song

2 points: 4 songs

3 points: 4 songs

4 points: 1 song

By comparison, their worst album (RTB) got 1.8.

Your 10/10's are making me question my lower ratings.

Alien Shore and Leave That Thing Alone are KILLER!

And Double Agent is a beast!

Bowl City was right all along...

:syrinx: Unfortunate it wasn't nearly the only time that occurred. They must of had a sign made up and hung in the studio somewhere for quite a while a bunch of years. Hope somebody at least had some Pledge to keep it dusted off.... :)

I'd rate it but I would have to listen to it. Not gonna happen.
