Ged Lent's sis
Clockwork Angels is overratedTai Shan is the best song Tai Shan is indeed the best RUSH song... no, wait, the best song... scratch that. Tai Shan is the best thing ever invented — or more precisely, the best thing in the history of existence. Number two is potato chips.
Rod in Toronto
Presto has Neil's best drumming on record. Mick He does kick ass on Presto. I don´t think it´s his best, but it marks the end of a period where he was at his most adventurous. The 80´s were his best period for me.
Segue Myles
Lock And Key is just PERFECTION. I feel that way about every song on the album! Yeah...I was gonna do a track by track but chose not too. Somehow, I always forget about Lock And Key. So when it p!ays I am like OH MY I LOVE THIIIIIS! Turn The Page is a gorgeous track as well. I sort of get why it would have been a great closer. But hey! I love Tai Shan and High Water just where they are. Tai Shan is starting! I have a perfect soundboard recording of one of the shows from which A Show of Hands was culled, and it has Lock and Key on it. And not that it's radically different from the studio version at all...but I still really enjoy having a great live recording of it. Turn the Page is also fantastic! And Tai Shan and High Water are a great coda to the whole album; I don't care what anyone else has to say about that. I would love to hear more of these songs live! Playing Power Windows now. It's not really doing anything for me, to be honest. Grand Designs and Marathon... About it really.Dude I weep for your species. Power Windows is a watershed moment in their history. Manhattan Project does nothing for you? I need to help you become a man. So I hereby invite you on a date with these chicks. Come to America and experience life:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5j5axZzcH0 Hey I really enjoy Power Windows! But I find the stark coldness of GUP more emotional and the lyrics of HYF more emotive. I also think you hold to much esteem for your own point of view. Power Windows was not a watershed moment, it was a really good album from an amazing period in the bands career. There is absolutely nothing about the record that I deem to be powerful enough to name it a watershed moment for the band.

Day of Light
Seemingly unpopular fashion opinions: Geddy's hairstyle in the 80's was top percentage. Sexy as hell. 70's was their worst era appearance-wise. I like Alex's suits.
Verena
The transition from pre-chorus to chorus for Witch Hunt is literally a musical orgasm. The GUP live performance is the best live performance of Rush and Geddy's voice was at it's peak around that time period. 80s was the best decade for Rush because of the willingness they had to experiment. Even traversing into Duran Duran, A Flock Of Seagulls, and Frankie Goes To Hollywood territory to write songs that could be played in a dance club, yet still be powerful musically. Even Alex's talents were well showcased with pretty against the grain chord patterns and solos.Their sound evoluted a lot during the 80's. :haz: Vapor Trails is a masterpiece, and Earthshine is a better song than Hemispheres.:goodone: Vapor Trails is tottally meaningful, conceptual and I like how modern it sounds. I can't compare Earthshine with Hemispheres. I do love both. Test For Echo is one of my favorite Rush albums. It made me discover Rush, means a lot to me. ;) When we are young Wandering the face of the EarthWondering what our dreams might be worthLearning that we're only immortal For a limited time Great lyrics, vibe destroyer. It kills the momentum of an otherwise good song. Thanks Rupert :haz: Agreed.

Hemispheres is often played at my local club, between Beyonce's Crazy In Love and Flo Rida's Low. Gets the party started!
Rushman2112
Fraroc is a fool. Rush's music has never...ever....been played in a dance club.I was DJ at a college party in the late 80's and played "The Weapon" as an experiment. When the song started, everyone stopped, gave me a dirty look, and walked off the dance floor. Rush can clear a dance floor in seconds. I've done it personally.
Wil1972
I didn't take the time to read every page but here are my personal opinions that are probably quite unpopular here: *It took me almost 20 years to get into Hemispheres (the song, I didn't hate it, but I had to really be in the mood for it, and that was rare. I have listened to it more lately, though.) *I don't care for Between the Wheels. Always felt it was the weakest track (along with Afterimage) on GuP. *I like Superconductor. *I like VT. Although I know it has it's fans here, in general it seems to be reviled. I liked it even more after the remaster. Solid late period album to me. *I think most of SnA is phoned in. The remix, I love.
Empty Mindless Spectre
My unpopular Rush opinion is that it must be really difficult for a conservative or tea party supporter to be a Rush fan.

What does conservative mean in this context? It's very easy if you're economically right wing or neo-liberal. A bit harder if you're a social conservative.

It's very easy if you're economically right wing or neo-liberal. A bit harder if you're a social conservative. You make a good point, Day of Light. If I may: I interpret Spectre's contribution in the context the backdrop of generations of conservative RUSH fans, drawn mainly due to the — albeit somewhat outdated — the lyricist's anti-collectivist viewpoint. One need look no further than every neo-con darling who cites Ayn Rand as a pivotal source of inspiration. That is to say, one might expect a conservative with sympathies toward the tea party worldview to take solace in the rock of RUSH, to which Spectre states the opposite, which could be seen as an unpopular assumption. A lot has changed since "the genius of Ayn Rand" dedication adorned the inner sleeve of a popular RUSH album, but before we lend too much credence to Neil's self-revision and his repeatedly referring to himself as a "bleeding heart libertarian": Perhaps this is an attempt to distance himself from the clichéd version of right-wing libertarianism, but as recent as four years ago he was lamenting the existence of European streets named after Karl Marx, laying the atrocities committed under the auspices of communist/socialist regimes directly at his feet. There are not many philosophies a conservative more enthusiastically subscribes to than Marx = The Iron Curtain = murderous totalitarianism. So I reckon that there are plenty of conservatives and even tea party devotees who count themselves RUSH fans, grinning and bearing whatever doesn't suit their fancy. And I reckon Spectre is right: That conservatives would have a hard time being a RUSH fan is, generally speaking, an unpopular opinion.
