1980-85 Ten Best Songs

In many ways I think the early eighties was the best, and has the sixties beat, in bands and music.

If you were to compile a CD for someone with the ten best songs that came out between 1980 and 1985, what would you put on it? I'm not interested in albums, just songs. :)

Gonna require lots of thought on this one and some research as well. Now way I can do this one of the top of my head. Memory is not serving as well as it used to. Good question though as always... :)

Depends if you were going for the upbeat "representive of stereotype" 80's or something more serious.

For example, I'd put "Kid Gloves" & Devo somewhere on the former, and "Afterimage" & Heart on the latter.

But it doesn't matter.

What do you think are the ten best songs from that five year period?

I know. You notice I didn't answer my own question. :codger:

Maybe I should have upped it to twenty to make it easier?

No doubt about it that there is much to choose from just during that five year period. :)

Only three I'm at all confident in so far are:

Rush - Afterimage

Devo - Whip It

Oingo Boingo - Little Girls

If it will make it easier for anyone, you can make it twenty songs. It'll be a Snakes & Arrows type CD. :laughing guy:

Only good and not used to cure insomnia...

Yeah, i could have added more. You can see I didn't listen to too much hard rock back then except for a few bands.

21. Men at Work - "Overkill" (can't believe I left this off my list. I even used lyrics from this song in my profile)

The (English) Beat – “Mirror in the Bathroom”

Devo – “Whip It”

Talking Heads – “Once in a Lifetime”

Joy Division – “Love Will Tear Us Apart”

Prince – “When Doves Cry”

Bruce Springsteen – “Atlantic City”

Rush – “Tom Sawyer”

Queen & David Bowie – “Under Pressure”

Pink Floyd – “The Final Cut”

The Clash – “This is England”

This list is off the top of my head. I feel bad about not including some metal, especially Black Sabbath. But I can only pick ten!

You can pick twenty if you want.

I can understand how picking just ten can be very hard.

Here's my off the top of my head list, with an amendment swapping "Subdivisions" for "Tom Sawyer". And I can pick twenty more! I feel I have too many snubs.
