I think that this may be what is at the bottom of my thread question. How can anyone, or any band, with mediocre talent, either as an individual or as a whole, go so far?

Eric Clapton? Are you kidding? He was the guitar god of the sixties until Jimmy Page came along.

Why is he so stinky?

He's not stinky, but we can argue that Clapton is not the "god" that most people say he is. He's a excellent musician and guitarist, but he is not a "god".

Clapton was great in his day, but these days, his music is pretty redundant. His blues rock guitar sound is great if that is what you like to hear, but has he done anything innovative recently?

I am not talking about what he is or isn't today. I was just mentioning how he was regarded back in the late sixties.

Without even reading any of the other posts first ( I will go back and read them after I post) I would say off the top of my head Bob Dylan and The Dead. Yuck with a capital Y...

How could I forget the Grateful Dead? Another band I've never understood the appeal.
