I was going for Hemispheres but I voted for Signals.  I like like Alex's sound on that album.

Impossible. Alex's guitar style has developed astronomically over the span of Rush's career.

I can pick a FEW albums, but not just one. That's just not possible.

2112
Hemispheres
Permanent Waves
Grace Under Pressure

Then everything Counterparts-onward.

Quoting both of his posts here. (Next one will follow).

Voting for Feedback because of my above post, and because it's tradition.

I'm not sure I'd call this the best guitar album, but my dad and I agreed recently that Snakes and Arrows has some great guitar on it. I might vote for that one...maybe.

I liked your post, because I know what you are saying, you big lug! But there is a ton of guitar on Signals. It's just all drowned out by the synth.

I was leaning towards A Farewell To Kings - Alex really came into his own on that album, with classical, 12 string, and the incredible atmosphere his volume swells and echo gave Xanadu ... It's also before he became obsessed with chours, as he still retains his raw sound ( which I love )

But the heck with that - the DEBUT is what, without fail, makes me say "holy shit, he's inspired"

All Rush albums have impressive guitar work, so for me to vote for one particular I will go buy best leads (impo). I was torn between Permenant Waves and Hemispheres. Permenant waves is the sentimental choice for me and Hemispheres is my new love, but I think Permenant Waves songs have better leads with the exception of Entre Nous. Funny thought just popped in my head with the two are so close together but so completely different but share certian similarities. EG; the riff in Cygnus Book X-1 II Prelude vs the opening riff of Free Will and each have a song with no lead included in the bridge Entre Nous vs Circumstances, and Natural Science is a prog rock classic of epic proprtions as is all of Hemisperes. Ok I am starting to drive me self crazy oops too late
