CA Should be considered a criminal offense against good taste.

Mick

Boooo!! :boo hiss:

(Ah, I loves ya anyway, Mick!)

Love ya too bud.......but is anybody really shocked by my view of CA 3 years in? :P

Mick

You, Narp, and most people over 50 I wouldn't have a sliver of surprise voting for the debut

Haha! No...surprised I am not.

But you do keep coming up with more and more varying negative superlatives about that album (the ways that you express how much you hate it just keep growing and growing!). :P

Based on these two, my vote goes to CA.

Oh, yeah...I love the debut album, but it does not compare to the career-affirming renaissance that Clockwork Angels is.

I really enjoy the debut, but it is so derivative and simple that it's tough to compare to any of Rush's work other than the synth era

The synth era? Are you saying that because you consider it an outlier as compared to their other works?... :)

Yes, but the synths are also simple and derivative like the debut.

Got it. Guess I like simple and derivative. Learn something every day... :)

I can like simple and derivative myself. But Rush's music isn't often both of those things (no more than most modern music is derivative, anyway) so it's hard for me to compare the debut with the other albums.

I just enjoy its simplicity, vibe and great solos much more than the overproduction with 3 or 4 good songs and two excellent ones. Just what my ears and taste dictate to me anyway. I couldn't trade Working Man, Finding My Way, Here Again, What You're Doing and Before And After and the other songs are pleasant enough for CA. Just couldn't do it... :codger:

You are swaying me...

You are called Segue around here, after all... ;)

The biggest obvious disadvantage the debut has is no Neil. It may be basic and raw but at least its not headache inducing like CA.

Unless horrible lyrics give you a head ache.

They can which is why I'm not a fan of CA.

The debut is full of youthful energy and that reckless spirit a musician has when they first get into a studio or on a stage in front of people ...

It's called fire, and you don't need to be over 50 to understand that - in fact, being under 17 might help too

The debut, and it's no contest

Check out Geddy's platform shoes.

And Alex's, for that matter. A touch more subtle, but they are there.

I used to have a pair just like Alex's in the photo, actually, except that mine were purple and lavender.

I certainly thought I was.

(I am reminded of today's TRF Dork Association thread, for some reason)...

I hope you missed the leisure suit era. Talk about being reminded of the word dork... ;)

I did miss out on that, yeah...but I do have a couple of forest-green-on-lime green and Dijon-mustard-on-brighter-yellow shirt and tie combinations...they are very 1972, and I dig them immensely. :)

Clockwork Angels is a better record.

However, I prefer the debut to it.

In the end, my vote went to CA.

 ....
