I went to a beer tasting party last week.  We had over a dozen beers to sample, and this won:

Drank a mess of it in Ireland.

The W is silent, by the way.

I love Smithwicks. I first had it at the Ohio Renaissance Festival a few years ago and it has been one of my favorite beers since.

BYW, I thought of you last night while walking the Strip in Vegas.  There was a street performer playing some incredible bass jams that you would have appreciated.  :)

Awesome.  :)

My man from Kalamazoo, Larry Bell, never ceases to amaze.  Went into TW, hoping the fall/winter stock was in, and they were stacked.  Christmas Ale, Third Coast (old) Ale, Brown, Two Hearted, Oberon, Porter, Amber, Oatsmobile, 3 stouts, and a newbie, Quinnlan Falls Special Lager, which has a nice hoppy kick to start, but finishes clean.  Bought that, the Amber, and my Winter favorite, Double Cream Stout.  Cheers, and Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

What do you think of Suntory Premium Malt, Sapporo, and Kirin beers?
IMHO, all 3 are far superior to Asahi and Orion, though those two aren't bad.

Respectively, those are my #2 and #3 national beers here.

Try Suntory Premium Malts if you haven't already. That's my #1.

Basically anything that comes out of Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic, but it has to have some serious alcohol volume, otherwise it's no more than soda pop to me.

Don't count Beck's as a hit or miss German beer. When it was imported to the U.S., it had a great taste. As soon as it got taken over by a brewery in St. Louis, Missouri, it naturally turned into piss.

It was usually good but not always. Not the fault of the brewer but at times in the 80s i would encounter a batch past their expiration date. I liked becks and especially becks dark. I was actually thinking about german wheat beers and I think Spaten which kicked my ass once.

German beer wasnt the only offender in the pre micro brew days to be like that. I cant the remember the last saint pauli or grolsch i drank. used to love them both

No expiration date involved. They just decided to put a Miller Light-type crap in a Beck's bottle and sell it at a higher price. American beer - just kill me now.

i dont doubt you but i also dont think i have drank any becks in the past 25+ years. regardless, beer does go bad in bottles. That sucks they ran a great beer into the shit zone. like i said, back in the day becks dark was top shelf beer.

i have read that the heinken that they sell here in the states is a far cry from the original.

I appreciate your comments, Beck's was my choice for many years, but beer can't go bad in bottles if the expiration date is right, unless you fill it with sub-par ingredients. You must understand this company's move messed up my life.  :boohoo:
