Lorraine
No one had ever put the words "rock" and "opera" together before Tommy I don't think. The album made quite an impact on us back then.

No they hadn't. The term was coined for this album. I didn't get into this version much until after I'd seen the movie about a dozen times. custom55
I was a casual Who fan in the mid-late 60's and I did buy Tommy soon after it was released. ...THEN... I saw The Woodstock movie the first week it came out and that was it. I was drooling for more Who. Live At Leeds was released next and I was in heaven. RushCanuck
Yup, I got into Tommy as soon as it was released. I became a Who fan back in 1967... they were on the Smothers Brothers, faking and lip synching to I can see for Miles and Miles and My Generation until the end when they started playing live. Pete smashed his guitar and Keith's drumkit exploded. (that may have damaged Pete's hearing right there). Then Tommy Smothers came back on stage and Peter rip off Tommy's guitar and smashed it too... I thought this is a band for me! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYkGimCrcRg

Whatever they did before they went epic I liked.

Then, somebody else put a 3RD load into the kit BABOOM! One report said someone was injured by a piece of one of Moonie's cymbal's (Pete?)Outstanding. Wish I saw them live more than the one time I did, Killer live band!

treeduck
Tommy is older than 46, he wasn't born a full grown man with a perm and a tan, he was at least 25 so he's actually 71!
