I swear to christ, I don't get the big deal about seeing a setlist. It's like seeing boobies before you see the real things. It's f***in awesome either way and even better when the boobies or Rush songs are real.

Most of us are over the age of 10.

The surprise is half (or more of the fun).

And that's great. But if you really want to stick to that, why visit an online fan forum at all? It's simply too risky. You're expecting thousands of online folks to ensure they mind spoilers when that's a huge expectation that's largely unrealistic. I myself have been guilty of inadvertently mentioning spoilers because I presume folks who browse these forums check out all the threads. Easiest way to really save your experience as fresh as possible is to not hit the fan sites.

I found out in SOCN in a thread about whether the bombing of Hiroshima was justified. I avoided the Rush section and everything but SOCN and OLV since three days before the opener and even changed my skin so that new thread titles and titles in the Rush section couldn't be seen and found out anyway. For someone who takes those precautions it should be reasonable to expect not to see any spoilers.

You did what you could, and even that wasn't enough...tough road to hoe bro!

Then some ahole at the show said loudly about 20 minutes before showtime that Xanadu was the second to last song before the encore, so I got the same spoiler twice. It was the first time for my son though..he didn't appreciate it much either.

See....right there, in this thread that is not in the R40 Spoiler Tour Forum, you casually spoiled the fact that a particular song is that is in the set.

That's how easy it is.

You're absolutely right, I forgot what subforum this was. I went back and edited any post I had that shared the information, and would ask the same of you (which obviously you're under no obligation to do).

And I've absolutely edited posts after making the error and realizing it (in one or two instances, a moderator did it for me). But the damage was done already, in the sense that someone could've seen it before it was changed.

I appreciate your sentiment, man, I do. But it's virtually impossible, the online reality you're expecting. It's just too easy to drop something in passing in a communal online group where one assumes, everyone's visiting to talk about and discuss the current tour. Even outside the tour forum. My point was, the only way to truly avoid it outright is to not visit before your show. Otherwise, caveat emptor and all that. :)

You're right. I couldn't avoid it. I enjoy other areas of the forum too much not to come and it was hard even for four days not coming back. On the other hand, I was off of Facebook for four days so at least there was some good that came of it.

Why can't people just avoid forums and social media if they don't want spoilers? It's not like the tour is six-months long or something.

Why can't people that want to talk about the tour stay in a section which was created for them to talk about the tour? Why do they have to talk about the setlist in every single place on the site?

Many reasons.

Because they're overly excited?

Because they assume most folks can't resist a peek at the setlist (being human) and have already seen the spoiler material?

Because people are weak monkeys who can't curb their impulses?

Because expecting a large group of humans to do anything via a set of established protocol is a fool's errand?

Because people forget?

Just as you just did. :)

I'm not baggin' on ya, bro. I'm just pointing out how it's next to impossible.

The surprise would be if they played Supernaught or Heading out to the Highway. We've heard every song they've ever played a thousand times, none of this is a shock to us

Or to turn it around, why should the people that don't care about spoilers be confined to a single forum section? It seems that the people who don't care vastly outnumber the people who do. Like it was demonstrated above, it's just too easy to unintentionally mention something about the songs or the tour and then people get their panties in a twist.

I'm tryin' to fade my Facebook and Twitter use myself. I think they're finally played out.

I still use Twitter as a newsfeed (well except for the early stages of a Rush tour) but haven't tweeted in forever, no matter how great my lunch was or how strong my constitution is.

LOL! The food porn is SOOOO 2013. ;)

I still use FB as a photo blog for my pals, but all I ever post are concert photos and doggy pix. :)

Sometimes, on the mobile site, it's very difficult to see what section a thread is in when you are reading posts, especially if using the new content functionality.

Because you wouldn't be confined to a single section. You could post in antsy section of the forum. There are already rules where you can't post certain content in certain sections, this is just one more of those.

The lack of consideration for another group of fans, maybe not the majority but not an insubstantial number, is pretty telling....and disappointing.

It's not so much that as it is forgetfulness, man. Just as you yourself have proven. It's a fan site. People are gonna talk Rush. In any of the forums, Rush is going to come out in some way, isn't it? Women. Sports. Politics. All on a Rush site. :)

By the same token, I keep having a similar circling debate about considerate concert behavior. :)

That suggestion was presented several times already as you know, and the counterpoint was that folks still want to visit the RUSH FAN SITE and talk about stuff with their online friends, Rush-related or not, and that all spoilers needed to be contained. To which I offered what I believe to be a simple observation...it's really next to impossible. People forget. It's only going to get worse as the tour progresses. What if Rush throws in a fan fave deep cut midway through the tour? How many people are going to be so excited and inadvertently start their own thread exclaiming "OMG, they're playing FOUNTAIN OF LAMNETH!!!" (DISCLAIMER - THEY HAVE NOT PLAYED TFOL) ;)

Online control, is, well...hard to assume control. Ugh, yeah, I went there. Nothin' worse than bad Rush puns. :)

By the same logic, I shouldn't even be arguing about the other thread's concert/recording etiquette, since it's a non-issue because like it or not, cell phones and people recording songs or even whole shows is here to stay.

Very true. Even if the venues tried banning cell phones it would never work. It's a bit different with a camera.

You are absolutely right, as I have admitted many times, that I f***ed up. If anyone had their concert experience ruined because of it, I feel your pain, I went through it myself.

You are also right that it's probably next to impossible to be 100% certain that if you come here that you put yourself at risk for spoilers.

I still submit there's a difference, of intent if not in practice, between someone who tries to keep it quiet, fails, and does everything in their power to delete any reference to said spoiler and someone who blithely suggests "well, if you don't like it then just stay off the site completely for as long as necessary, we're excited about it, so tough shit." (You seem to understand that )

Disappointing is by far the nicest word I could come up with for the attitude exemplified in the latter description.

Maybe that's a wee bit harsh but your position if I understood it correctly was that you should not be limited as to where you should be able to post spoilers on the site, which, if it was the official position of the mods would drive everyone who wanted to avoid spoilers from the site (no precaution would have any real possibility of success) from at least the beginning of the tour until their show...this is a heavy price to pay for your ability to do so, especially when a place was specially prepared for anyone who wished to post anything about the show to their heart's content could.

You're focusing the discussion on what you think I want, but my point was that if someone wants to avoid spoilers they could just avoid social media. What heavy price are you referring to? This is a really short tour.

Oh, I definitely think people purposefully posting spoilers isn't cool, of course.

I think most of it is just carelessness, rather than malice or spite or wanting to be the first to report something exciting. But there is that component for some, I suppose. :/

But really, the only way to fully keep yourself safe from spoilers is to not hit fan sites at all until after your show,.

Yes exactly. People get riled up even if things are posted by mistake, which most of them are.

Why can't people just avoid forums and social media if they don't want spoilers? It's not like the tour is six-months long or something.

Why can't people that want to talk about the tour stay in a section which was created for them to talk about the tour? Why do they have to talk about the setlist in every single place on the site?

Or to turn it around, why should the people that don't care about spoilers be confined to a single forum section? It seems that the people who don't care vastly outnumber the people who do. Like it was demonstrated above, it's just too easy to unintentionally mention something about the songs or the tour and then people get their panties in a twist.

I never said tough shit nor did I imply it. I'm just saying that if you truly want to avoid spoilers then to be safe you need to stay off of social media. That is all.

Avoiding TRF.

I made a spoiler mistake yesterday, and thankfully got bailed out by two members (who also ripped me a new one!). But it was a mistake, which I was able to fix within 20 minutes, thanks to them.

Overall, the forum software is excellent, except for this one flaw, that subjects spill out onto main page and new content. To start a subject, and not be able to put the actual subject in the title is very limiting. But I know the rules, and will not start any new threads for 75 days. OMG 75 days.

Expecting the non spoiler crowd to stay off TRF completely is just as harsh. My best suggestion to avoid mistakes and leakage like this would be to bookmark favorite subforums and avoid main page and new content page. Sorry for that error yesterday Rush fans.
