wow i can't make best of lisists in month 2, lol

But I loved Soen and DT.

Swallow the sun will NOT be there most likely......too repeatitive.

but as i say it's a good song.

Mick

Too repetitive?

Come on, the chorus on the first track is done in a completely different vocal style than the one on track four lol.

When it's a theme or concept album I usually let the sameness slide because the band is trying to convey a certain mood with it.

Every song on this album sounded the same to me. same tempo same rythems. at times near same melodies.

i liked it but you guys REALLY don't hear it. REALLY??

lol.....ok then.

Oh, I hear it. I was just making a joke that not everything sounds exactly the same. Given what inspired the album, I understand why the songs all have a similar feel and tempo.

but i STILL go a solid 8/10. as i joked....it's a great song, lol

Ranking the Iron Maiden albums I now own:

8. No Prayer For The Dying (7/10)

7. Iron Maiden (8/10)

6. Killers (10/10)

5. Number Of The Beast (10/10)

4. Seventh Son Of The Seventh Son (10/10)

3. Powerslave (10/10)

2. Piece Of Mind (10/10)

1. Somewhere In Time (10/10)

Based solely on the 80s albums, Iron Maiden could have just dethroned Paradise Lost as my all time favourite heavy metal band!

I never truly understood the hype about this band until I finally listened to these records blasting out so bloody loudly from my speakers! That eighties run is mindblowing! And for everyone who thinks listening to music via Spotify and the like is the best way, I am afraid you are wrong. Hearing the music play oh so loudly as it vibrates your walls, with the artwork in your hands and the drink of your choice at your disposal, their is nothing to compare to the old fashioned experience.

Collecting Iron Maiden albums as I am doing is reminding me how much I love music and can take it for granted.

Also I ranked Number over Killers because I found it to be the album that gets better the more I play it. I can listen to it start to finish and the hits are amazing, and the songs I didn't know as well are phenomenal too (did I really once say that Children Of The Damned was a weak song?).

Powerslave is amazing. So truly wonderful. But I think Piece Of Mind and Somewhere In Time are superior. Seventh SonOf The Seventh Son actually made me die of glee as its also amazing but I sort of feel Powerslave might be the better album.

Iron Maiden...oh gosh I knew I loved them as I really truly do but this year it's gone up several thousand notches!

I will never understand the love some have for Killers. It's an album with a bunch of decent songs built around two great ones(Rue Morgue, title track). Most of it is forgettable to me. I like the album whenever I hear it. But besides those two songs and Ides/Wrathchild I always have to listen to the album to remember how the rest of the songs go.

Also, you're weird Segue. You didn't fall in love with the classics first when becoming a metal fan lol.

My first metal bands were Trivium, Opeth and the female fronted ones.

Through Trivium and their vocal love of their influences, in one year I discovered (aged 15):

Iron Maiden

Metallica

In Flames

Dark Tranquility

Iced Earth

Machine Head

Emperor

At The Gates

Celtic Frost

Death

Cannibal Corpse

And so many others. So I didn't start with the classics, no. But Trivium made sure I learned who the greats were!

I can happily stop at FOTD. Seventh Son is an especially satisfying place to pause.

I love the albums since 2000 though!! May still be my preferred era!

The 200's stuff is quite good but......every album is a tad to long.

And yet I got blasted for not thinking Number Of The Beast is the bands best album (still think I should have been bold and rated Killers above it).

I’ve only heard four of them, but my ranking would go something like this:

Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (prog metal deliciousness)

Powerslave

Number Of The Beast

Piece Of Mind

You should never trust when a veteran band that is known for some other sound is suddenly labeled something else 30 something years into their career. The album is a chore to get through. Never thought of it as symphonic but there are certainly elements of it there. They tried something different with Nostradamus but they failed miserably. Epic double concept album is not Priest's thing. The album was so embarrassing KK Downing retired from the band a few years later lol.

They did get one hundred percent back on track with Redeemer Of Souls and Firepower. It's always good when a band realises they screwed up with an album and get back to what made them great again instead of continuing down a bad path musically.

To me, it’s just a heavy block of driving metal done Maiden style. It’s easy to enjoy and keeps me coming back.
