Avengers: Age of Ultron

About Hawkeye:

Anyone else get the impression they were really pushing the "Hawkeye is gonna die" message a bit too inconspicuously? Talking about his family, and the projects he has at home, and how they said "we're not all making it out of this without spilling some blood" or whatever the line was. Seemed liked they tried so hard to foreshadow his "death" that is because more and more unlikely.

I actually enjoyed most of the "slow time" character building scenes, much of the CGI porn bored me. For example the Hulk vs Hulk Iron Man scene would have been more impactful if shorter IMO, your mileage may vary.

I got bored mid-way through hoping it would end sooner. I felt the same way with the previous Avengers film. Odd because I really enjoy Joss Whedon's Firefly/Serenity.

It was the opposite for me. I was wondering what cool stuff the director was going to show next. I'm really impressed with this work in terms of breadth. Lot's of interesting character development IMO. Hard to do with so many.

I think a lot of the "slow time" was definitely needed. It helped with the swing of the story. They're never going to be able to please everyone, but the box office shows just how many enjoyed it.

There was a similarity with the first one as far as story arcs go... both had them "in a dark place" before rallying at the end.

The slow time is always needed. A good action-adventure film gives the audience time to breathe as well as time to build up to another climax.

Surprising there isn't a thread about this...

Went to see it this weekend... if you liked the first one, I'm sure you'll like this one. Overall, I liked it quite a bit.

I'm always a fan of the humor thrown throughout the Marvel movies, and this was no different. My only complaint is Spader as the voice of Ultron - just seemed to miss the mark for me.

I liked Spader's voice.

It's always good to have a rest between climaxes.

Yeah let's just say I thought so too.

I will say that I think Hawkeye was probably the best in the whole movie, which was really unexpected. With Hulk and Cap #2 and #3.

For me, Iron Man stole the show in the first one... with Hulk being a close second (for his fight with Thor and his beat down of Loki)

I really liked Hawkeye and Cap in the new one. The running "language" joke was great.

Ah yes, so saw it last night.

Some thoughts:

*Way different movie from the first Avengers (good)

*Too many characters thoughout (cool, but ultimately bad)

*Ultron was cool but I can't get into a CGI villan, it took me out of it a bit and he can't hold Loki's Tesseract-scented jockstrap

*Getting a bit tired of watching them fight a million CGI / non-human enemy henchmen. Give me Cap's Hydra agents from his 2 movies anyday

*They're even starting to somehow water down Iron Man. He's usually a bright point in these movies but he kind of sucks in this one. Plus Stark's mistake (you know which one I mean) makes no sense. Somebody that smart would never do something like that.

*Isn't Quicksilver the same guy from X-Men Days of Future Past? If that's so, then will this movie impact how that universe can use him again?

*As mentioned above, Hawkeye is the star of this and all I can say is did not see that coming but it was cool regardless.

Narcissism makes many a man do dumb things. Tony Stark has been trying to play god ever since he created the Iron Man suit.

Thanks to the X-Men franchise being owned by another company, this film couldn't even call the twins "mutants". They are "enhanced". Their family history had to be changed.

Perhaps Disney could buy out all the studios and then put every Marvel character in the same epic film.......;)

This brings up something that I've always wondered about. The term "zombies" isn't used in a lot of zombie movies. The Walking Dead refers to them as "walkers" and "biters". Is that term copyrighted?

My review of the movie in question; I really liked it. Someone told me it wasn't as good as the first one and that it was long and boring so I had lowered expectations. This may have been why I liked it so much.

I did think that the fighting of the robot army got old.

I enjoyed it too, I can agree with the CGI spamming... it does get repetitive, and the strength of the robots seemed to vary wildly... some would fall apart if someone looked at them, others needed a really good ass kicking.

Bruce Banner should have said to Stark, "Tony, the idea of creating a powerful, weaponized artificial intelligence is a bad idea. Name me an AI movie where it's worked out for the better? Terminator? The Matrix? I Robot? What will happen is the same thing that's happened in all of those other movies and we'll have to save the world from it."

The Avenger's party was a highlight. The "hammer" contest was just hilarious. Did you capture the slight movement when Captain America tried to pick it up?

How could you not?!

What about the drinking with vets, and the trash talking between Thor and the geezers who were apart of the Omaha Beach invasion?

Stan Lee always has his cameo, doesn't he?

A few thoughts and comments on this one. I will try to limit an spoilers to what has already been discussed.

1. I had not seen the first Avengers movie due to the Hulk being in it. He is one of my least favorite Marvel characters. Went to this in spite of the Hulk being in in. Mostly went because (1) Thor & Cap America are in it (2) The Scarlet Witch :P would be in it (not only is she smoking hot in the mags but her character growth over the years was very interesting to watch) (3) Josh Wedon of Firefly and Buffy the Vampire Slayer was directing it (3) Ultron - always a nasty foe - would be in it.

2. Thor with the D-day vets was great.

3. The Vision handing the hammer to Thor - massive cry of "Holly Shit!!!" rang out in the theature I was in. Interesting since I do not recall The Vision ever doing that in the mags. Somebody please correct me if I am wrong.

4. Cap and the Thors hammer. Interesting because in the mags Cap does eventually pick up and use Thor's hammer (I don't have the exact mag in front of me but it was around Thor #390).

5. The Iron Man & Hulk clash. Less would have been so much better. Would have given the movie more room to let the plot develop.

6. The assistant Ultron's - again, a little less CGI would be better.

7. James Spader as Ultron - fine.

8. The Quicksilver thing - did not see that coming.

All in all I really liked the movie - might see it again. Will be a busy summer for movies what with the next Mad Max movie, the next Terminator movie, a Fantastic 4 movie and, best of all, the sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon being released in late August!!!!

Zombie movie and shows, usually take place in a place where zombies don't exist. There are no books or movies about zombie invasions. They are just people gone crazy, so the people on the movie make up names for them as they see them.

Avengers 2 just came out here (Japan) last weekend so here's my 2 cents...

(1) You're correct, Vision in the comics never lifted Mjolnir. But Cap has! He's Captain America for Pete's sake. He's pretty worthy. I assume that's why they had the hammer slightly move in the flick when Cap tried.

(2) I wish they went with no eyeballs for Vision and a cold, hollow (horror like) voice as in the comics. I also wish they had him fight a few Avengers when he was "born". Felt that that was a missed opportunity to see how powerful he really is.

(3) Too many characters. Not enough focus on Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch. QS' demise seemed unnecessary.

(4) Great eye candy. Best red/white/blue Cap costume yet. Hulk buster Ironman was good stuff. Liked the way Scarlet Witches' power was depicted.

(5) Spader as Ultron was fine. But I didn't like the complete omission of Hank Pym from the creation of Ultron. Surely, they could've worked the character in somehow.

(6) Hawkeye seemed unlike Hawkeye except for at that party.

(7) Liked Avengers 1 much better (A+ score). I'd give Age of Ultron a B or B- due to the little things...and there were a lot of little things. Still had fun though.

I saw "Avengers: Age of Ultron" in 3-D in theatres, and I liked it. At the time, and overall, I thought it's better, than "Avengers". Edited by Derek19
