And shoot, I couldn't make this Q and A last night! One of our cars died (for good) unexpectedly and we had to start car shopping. I wanted to ask Alex what was the thinking behind selling their publishing recently? I know in one of those interviews with Ray Danniels he said it was "financial planning" or something but I thought the cardinal rule in rock (after Brian Wilson and Paul McCartney losing control of their own work) was that you never sell the ownership of the songs you wrote?? If you want a much better interview with Al, check out the one he did with Chad Smith of The RHCP a couple of years ago. Just two guys shooting the bull over dinner.

I tried finding a youtube of this but couldn't.

I ran across this just the other day, as a transcript; I guess the Youtube and the podcast are no longer up. It's an interview from 2013 right before the RRHOF induction. Maybe everyone already read it, I dunno. Alex talks more about his family and guitars than anything else; he also says he has psoriatic arthritis, which I never realized. Chad Smith is interesting, also, except for one part where he is making fun of a young fan who only knows a song as "song two" on her play list. Seemed kind of mean; I don't know, a fan is a fan IMO.

Blueschica, being that I am someone who cannot view videos on the internet, I am indebted to you for providing the transcript for this interview. Thanks a billion! :)

You're welcome- have fun reading ! :) The arthritis thing was a surprise- maybe it's a factor in the "last major tour" decision. . . .

Alex, that thing on your head looks like it has a pulse...what's up with that?

You seem really worried about his hair. Any reason why? :)

Yeah, really.

Tombstone, IMO that comment that you posted in that chatroom about his hair was a cheap shot.

OK so I've been called out by the man. He's right...that was not very nice, and conducive to world peace. I should think before typing in a chat directly connected with Alex. So in order to make amends to Alex, and 73, and EagleMoon, and all people who wear rugs--I give you Bryan Adams.

You don't need to make amends with me. I was just calling you out for that comment. It wasn't aimed at me. I know Alex is pretty upset. :(

If the tour gets canceled due to Alex having sudden psychological issues, we'll know who to blame.

Yep just blame ol' TM for Alex's mental issues.

Regards,

Blah Blah Blah Blah,

Most bizarre RRHOF speech ever

Yes, he sounded really devoted to his grandsons; that part was cute! Kind of a different insight into Alex.

Who would pressure Alex to tour, not Neil does Geddy strong arm these guys? Someone else? I didn't hear it but would think Alex would laugh off questions aboot his hair.

oh yeah I remember the fan only knowing the song as 'song two'...that was actually pretty funny. I think they were talking about the differences in younger fans these days. Gone are the days when kids sit down and memorize the album covers.

I remember laying on my bed and staring at an album cover for the longest time, turning it every which way - reading the lyrics (if they were printed on the jacket and not everyone did that back then cause it cost extra money) - and then staring at the album jacket some more. :laughing guy:

Pre-Internet days . . . sigh. I did the same thing. Absorbing every detail of the album cover was kind of the only way you could get clues about what kinds of people these musicians were - their sense of humor, for one thing. Rush always had nicknames for their road crew, for one thing.

Edit: I'm not sure what compelled me to use the phrase "for one thing" twice.

Watched this last nite and surprised how out of shape Alex looks. He's overflowing out of his collar and has the general appearance an elderly man, albeit having a much younger voice. He also seemed fatigued, seemingly having difficulty putting his ideas into words at times. I hope he pulls himself together cuz he's relatively too young to be looking like this. Not slamming him, I'm purely concerned!

Btw, the whole interview was complete chit. Interviewer should be whacked over the head with a rubber chicken.

I think he looks ok albeit a bit chubby but he didn't seem in a great mood, like he didn't want to be there and you can see him kind of sigh quite frequently as the questions were asked, a bit bored looking, all out of character for Alex!
