They have the spirit of 70's prog rock while still being modern (so they're not a one trick homage snooze fest like, say, Astra) I guess the best modern representation of prog rock that is in the mainstream would be PT/SW, while bands like The Mars Volta and Coheed and Cambria are taking the genre in new directions.
