Wow, have I been digging hemispheres as of late. I put it in my rotation a week or so ago and have not been able to let it go. Even when I am not driving it is playing in my head. What a wonderful bod

Hemispheres is my fav rush album. ever. it's perfection. The title Track is their best epic.......no matter what detracters say. Wonderful record.   Mick

There are rare moments during certain songs that, no matter what you are doing or where you are, these moments will transport you to some other place ..

 

This is one

 

And Hemispheres is, for me, what RUSH is

 

That's one of my favorite parts of the song. Instant goose bumps!

Hemispheres the epic goes by so fast. that's one sign of a great epic.

 

I could do multiple listens in a row with it.

Seems God started playing the album in loop at the very beginning of Genesis and then realized after what seemed just a while that he missed R40 tickets presale....

I like that idea...

 

And on the eighth day He got a Gold VIP Ticket (no credit card details needed, it seems....)

 

and a Meet and Greet pass too!

 

I would there have been not a few fans who would claim to have met God at a Rush show over the years. :)

 

I'll bet He goes to all of them! :P

 

No sign of God here in Italy when they played in 2004 and 2007; but several hundreds had a chat with Mother Mary during the intermission....

In Jr. High I was transfixed/obsessed with Hemispheres like no other record before or since. The feeling's not as intense these days but it will always be the most magical lp ever to me.

Is there a goblin that swaps ober my disc for white noise between plays? I hate it...i love it...i hate it...i love it.

 

I never like it.

Same here! I wish I remembered more of it. They were so new to me at the time I don't think I appreciated enough for what it was. Awesome concert.

But... but Prelude pulls pieces from everything after it? Issues with Ged's voice on it? I mean... I love the screechy old days but I can see where some wouldn't. THAT I can understand. Musically... it's extensions from Prelude.

Cygnus Bringer of Balance and The Sphere is the most amazing stretch of music I have heard. Chills 36 years later (for me). Wish I could put it onto words for you 98. They were at their apex creatively. Makes one of my favorite short form Rush songs - Circumstances - seem so....mortal.

Every time I hear "Then all at once the chaos ceased... " it hits me hard. Builds so perfectly to that line.

 

Also, "Some who did not fight brought tales of old to light". I love the way Neil takes a metaphor and throws that one line to keep your mind fixed on the illusion (if that make sense).

Much of the album, esp the middle part of La Villa, but the single best example would be from below, 2:18 to 3:50, my favorite minute and a half of music by anyone. Thanks for asking! :ebert:

 

p.s. I really love the ESL version of this part as well. Same of Xanadu, love the ESL version.

:LOL: I knew it! Rutle, I fast-forwarded to your favorite La Villa part knowing it would be my favorite part as well. I especially love the part that begins at 5:15.

 

If Alex never wrote another thing in his life, this song would have been enough to forever brand him as a master of the guitar.

 

I'd love to ask him how he wrote it, and what inspired the notes.
