To me, it's not a bad album.  it's just so un-Rush-y it makes Presto sound good.

Anyway, voted for Middletown Dreams.

By the way Narps, now that you are here, when is the surgery so Mick and I can prepare the entertainment to facilitate your recovery process?
Next Friday. I will probably be in la la land most of that day I would imagine. Thanks for asking... :)
Probably Saturday I will need a robust discussion of the TMT and CA tour DVD and the Clockwork Angels album. If you want to throw in a lengthy discussion regarding the merits of S & A that would be the cherry on top... :)

I've got it all planned.  Was going to make it a big Rush miscellaneous thread where everyone can argue and rip each other to shreds discuss everything and anything to do with Rush.   I was going to ask Mick to get the ball rolling with a few criticisms remarks.  He's good at fanning the flames of Rush fans.  Right, Mick?

You'll fight the fires while i'm feeding the flames.

Mick

Folks have got to make choices.
It's entertainment, and a way to make Narps forget the pain.

Oh, I wasn't being critical...Mick and I were just having a bit of fun quoting lyrics from a song on the album that will surely be picked apart in round eleven.

:)

Power Windows would be another 10, if it were not for The Big Money.

Never truly understood why they would open an album with such a clunky tune.

Rest of the album, the best is better than anything on GUP...but that opener...good but not really that good.

I hate that Emotion Detector has those awful drums throughout the verses - but the song does redeem itself a bit with some very great playing during the guitar solo - actually more like a bass and guitar solo at the same time.

I like Emotion Detector a lot for some reason.   But it's not Rush.

Hard to believe it's the same band that did Xanadu.  Or Hemispheres.

You and Mick and I all agree on the same Achilles heel, then!

And I am probably more vehemently opposed to it than either of you. I almost always skip it.

The "new Rush."  Is this around the same time that awful "Coke II" or "New Coke" or whatever it was called came out?

Probably my least favorite Rush album.  This + Hold Your Fire = "going too far"...

I could just throw a dart...but I'll go Mystic Rhythms.

Save that for next Saturday and our Narps recovery thread.  It will go over real big in the other section.

 Indeed it will.

I'm surprised he hasn't started a Pepsi marketing/morale-boosting campaign already, in light of toymaker's comment. :P

I was completely disillusioned with the band when this album came out. Couldn't listen to it (other than The Big Money) for a LONNNG time. Since this last tour I've listened to it a lot, and I think since so many years have gone by that I can now appreciate it for what it is.  It has some really good songs on it, but it's just in no way related to the same band of the pre-Moving Pictures era.  That being said, I picked Emotion Detector. It's just really sappy and the synth sounds are really dated.

I agree it is sappy.  Cheesy comes to mind too.  But it has some reoccurring music in it that I like.
