Rush, Feedback, Polls and YOU. What's that all about? Well, it's like this...

Here in the Rush forum, we have threads discussing Rush, and we have polls. Lots of polls. All kinds of polls. Favorite song polls, worst song polls, song vs. song polls, elimination bracket polls with multiple rounds, and so forth. There are many people who are happy to pass the time participating in these polls, exercising their right to vote. Then there are those who feel all these polls are clogging up Rush and thereby making it tough to find actual discussion threads.

And they're right. Too many polls in here. Thing is, it wasn't supposed to be this way.

A few forums down from here is the Feedback forum. Feedback was specifically designed to be THE place for polls. Says right there below the forum title: "Vote for and discuss your favorite songs from each Rush album." So why are people creating polls in here instead? Because Feedback is laid out like crap and very few people want to hang in there.

Why is Feedback such a mess? When we first opened TRF we were against the idea of having subforums. We wanted this place to be easy to navigate, with all the forums accessible from the main page. We didn't want a labyrinth of forums and subforums. After a while we added a few subs, but we tried to keep them to a minimum. Anyway, with Feedback, we wanted the official album polls pinned at the top, AND have them in chronological order, and in order to do that without putting them in a sub, we had to sort the whole forum with the most recently posted-in threads displaying at the bottom of the last page -- in other words, totally backwards from the rest of the board. And because of that, people were hardly using Feedback to create new polls because backwards is a pain in the ass -- new threads should be at the top of the first page, dammit! --  so they made their polls in Rush instead. And now Rush is clogged with them, so it's time to make Feedback relevant again.

Now that the new board software displays subforums from the main page, subs aren't quite so scary anymore, so the pinned album polls will be placed in a sub called Totem Polls (which was Feedback's original name, BTW), where they can be sorted in their proper chronological order without affecting the order of the threads in the rest of Feedback. Feedback will finally sort properly, and you poll-happy people can actually USE that forum in the way it was originally intended.

We'll move all the recent polls and many of the older ones into Feedback over the next day or two. So, once Feedback and Totem Polls are properly configured, no more polls in Rush, please.

P.S. "...backwards is a pain in the ass" was pun intended. :D

We all know who "YOU" is, and here I am.

All those who complained about too many polls, how many threads have you contributed to the forum?

Many of the polls that were begun were started when this place was dead and people were bored.    They were started to keep people busy and entertained.

I'll relegate myself to TRF ghetto when it is ready for occupancy.  :hi:

Just in time.  I was just about to add a "yodeling vs. warbling" poll.

Not really.  :)

This is not something you need to take personally. (Zumbi, on the other hand...)

There is nothing wrong with polls. They're fun for a lot of people here -- just look at the high post counts in each of them for proof of that. But because they're so popular right now they've sort of taken over the Rush forum, and this is while Feedback is sitting down there not being used, and it was designed strictly for polls! Feedback is not the "ghetto," thank you, and in fact it's going to be moved up a few slots to just underneath the tour forum.

I don't have a problem with it (not that it would matter).   Who knows, it'll make it even easier when they rerelease Garden Road in five new formats, or there's a new bootleg made when some drunk guy accidentally turned on a recording device with his ass...

I didn't see a problem with the old way as it kept me looking on the Rush board when interesting threads were few and far between, but I don't see why the new way can't be awesome either.  Thank you for the detailed explanation 73, and for the efforts to make it work.

Led, you are right.  Gratitude and thanks are in order here - not complaining.

73, I didn't mean to be ungrateful.  It's not like you don't have a personal life without having to look after the asylum inmates here as well.

Lorraine's polls and threads are always well attended as has been said already. That means folks love them and get some entertainment value from them. Just preach'in to the choir most likely here I know. Love the TRF but without her threads the boredom bell rings loudly and often at least for me anyway...
